Publishers of Express. t-j m : ~ —- I9*A rare literary treat is to be of* sered to tho citizens of Cartersville and Bartow county, at the Methodist E. Church South in this place, on next Wednesday night. The Rev. W. P. Harrison, D. D., of Wesley Chapel, Atlanta, Ga., will deliver his able.and profound Lecture upon ‘‘Woman,” which has called forth the eulogies both of the press and people of that city. The subject itself, abstractly considered, to say nothing of the elo quence of the learned lecturer, should call out the populace. The object of the lecture is two fold, to pay a deser ved tribute to the woith of “Woman,” and raise funds to repair and render comfortable the House of God. Who can refuse to lend his influence and assistance in so noble a cause? Let •every lady and gentleman signify their ti<rn o( lln« praiseworthy effort by turning out on this occasion. Cartersvilie, Ga. jQpßlair 4* Bradshaw—the name to buyers, dear—they soothe their sor rows, heal their woes, and drives a way their fears, by selling them Dry* Goods, Clothing, Rats, Boots/Shoes, tfc-, cheaper than * they can be bought t «*We hear it occasionally suggest* ed, by the timid, that Cartersville is overdoing herself in the way of trade. It is feared that to a many business houses have gone, and arc still, going up for the good of business men gener* ally. Never was there a greater mis take, in our humble judgment: The more goods the more trade. Merch* ants* profits, it is true, will be « little shorter, but they will only attract the people.to the maiket, by selling cheap,, and in the end sell more goods. Com. petition is the life of trade. And it should be borne in mind that business is rapidly being concentrated in the towns. Before the war nearly every law-ground and cross roads in the country could sport a heavy stock of goods. Not so now. Country stores are very insufficiently supplied with goods, generally. People love to and will flock to the towns. There they can find a variety of stocks to select from, and, then, they want to see the railroad and post themselves up with the news of the day. Cartersville has got the country to back her up, and the business of the place must necessarily be heavy. Our farmers are working with a will and zeal heretofore un~ known in the history of this country. Never before were the farmers so in* dustriously engaged, at this season of the year, in preparing their lands for another crop, and never were the lands so well prepared before in this section. The unapproachable Brinley turning plow has become an indispensable fixture on almost every farm, and a household word in almost every fami ly. Never before were hangers-on and idlers so scarce hereabouts; every* body seems to be trying to make a liv* ing. With such a hive of industry a ronnd us, we can say to the merchant bring on your goods, and to the farmer bring on your produce. Cartersville, Sept. 16, 1867. Mr. Editor —lt has been our priv ilege foe twenty-five years to exercise the right of suffrage, and it has been our custom to do this without regard to the opinions of political demagogues, or aspirants, who are not unfrequenUy gove mod by motives which are far removed from purity, and the best in terests of the country t but as it is gen erally considered a sort of index to ths wishes of such as would perch them selves in high places, to find a few ar' tides in the news papers, manifesting an inordinate desire to see something done for the good ol the country, your Orator proposes to set aside in the outset, any pretext for the charge. He is one of the many who are inel igible and can have no voice upon the momeiuious question now agitating the public mind. Our motto is Recon struction, no Repudiation of Public or private debts. Vote for the best men you can get lor the Convention. Confie up at once and liquidate Your Mill Accounts and others— and keep sacred and inviolate the prin ciples of Justice. Do not disregard live millers claims, Pay for the bread which life sustains, And hope for a better day to come When our troubles will not be bur densome.” MILNER & STOCKS. m-We have been gifted with a sack of very superior Family Flour, ground at the “Allatoona Mills,” own ed by our old and esteemed friend, El liott Moore, than which, no prettier, iivlier nor sweeter flour can be made. This mill will vie successfully with any mill in the land, both in quantity and quality. Mr. Moore will please accept our warmest than&s for this token oi his favorable consideration for us. 19* We heard a distinguished gentle man say, a few days since, that in no part of the world was the standard of Christianity higher than along the line of the Western 6i Atlantic Railroad.— How true. Printers’ Ink—shake, wxll beforejusing.” Upon the removal of the wrapper the following label revealed the secret: — “W. S. Bancroft’s Champagne Cider, Anchor Brand, New York Oar vii, misunderstanding directions, went out and like to have shook all the wool off the top of his head, and retamed with eyes sparkling like two diamonds, in time to find out that while he was doing the “shaking” somebody else was doing the “using,” while George stood eyeirg the vessel of departed spirits, his eyes very much resembling two burnt holes in a blanket. The Junior looked as bright as the spark* ling beverage which he had just “*7t haled," while the Senior threw him self back upon bis dignity and looked cheerful, All hands pronounced the Cider very good and Dr. Mason in deed a clever gentleman. Thank you, Doctor, for this manifestation of esteem for the printer. A competent teacher with means to erect a suitable building, will find a more eligible lo cation in this town than can be found else where in the state of Georgia, Careful esti mates represent the. population at about two thousand, and the rapid influx of the same, to - gether with the material already here, will give a school of eighty to one hundred, scholars, in the male department. We are glad to say. that afemale HigKSchool is already established and in successful oppe ration—We want a Male Institute. Will our brothers of the press give notice 1 WuWe are rejoiced to learn that our old, esteemed friend and former countyman, Col. J. Watt Harris, now of Huntsville, Ala., has purchased that beautiful lot in front of the Presbyte rian Church, formerly belonging to the Leake estate, and has contacted for the erection of a handsome residence on that desirable site, with the view ol again settling in our midst and identi fying his interest with ours. We glad ly welcome him back, and as many more good citizens as can make it to their interest to cast in their lots with us. Circular to all District Attorneys and Marshals of the United States, and to all their txspeclive Assistants and Deputies , and to all persons holding any official relation to the Attorney General's office. Attorney General’s Office, ) ♦ September 10, 1867. J Sir—l herewith furnish you with an official copy of the proclamation of the President of the United States dated the 3d instant, and in the ninety-second year of American Independence. This proclamation recites in brief the obligations of loyalty to the republic, and was intended to admonish you, in common with all persons holding any place of honor, trust or profit, civil or military, at home oi abroad under t h e United States of America, and all good citizens thereof, that the Constitution of their country is in force, and that the Government thereunder, with its several co-ordinate branches, legisla tive, executive, andjudicial, is the only lawful Government for this republic, notwithstanding that many welb-mean ing citizens have v ip consequence of disturbing events that are now happily past, come to look with indulgence upon false and dangerous pretences that the Constitution is not the supreme law of the land, and also the most authentic proof of the will of the people ; but that there are powers of government outside of the Constitution which may lawfully violate that instrument and the laws made in pursuance of it. All citizens of the United States owe allegiance to that nationality, as the same is embodied and organized in the Constitution and such amendments thereof as, having become expedient in the progress of the country, have been duly made and ratified. But in a special manner atl persons holding of fice under the United States are sol emnly sworn to support that Constitu tion, and also to bear true faith and allegiance' to the same, and to the Government thereunder; and for the greater number of such incumbents at this time it is known that they have been retained or have'-been placed their respective offices upon express assurances of zealous loyalty to the Union, which is taken*-try aiiTtren to mean a cheerful obedienee to the proper civil authority of the country,- Bui far the functions of your office, which, are directly connected with tt*e enforce ment of the laws, a lively sense of their sanctity and authority is anticipated.
