iaeal Hi mi . M fed V*,.We are compelled to omit the publication of several communications and editorial notices, this week, owing to the rush made upon our advertising columns. We hope no one will be hurt with us, for we have done the very best we could do. ttriX.The young folks, midille-aged folks, and old folks, the little the big, the white the black, one and all, will rejoice to learn that the big show is coming to town —yes, another live Gireus and Menagerie—the first since the war." John Robinson’s combina tion Circus and Menagerie, ten shows in one, will exhibit in Cartersville, on Wednesday evening and night, the Oth day of November next. Admis sion sl. Children under ten years of age 50 cents. This exhibition bears a very flattering reputation wherever it has performed. The papers all speak of it in the highest terms of comment dalion, and declare it to be the best ex hibition now traveling in America,— From what we have seen of its agents, they are clever and accommodating gentlemen. See their flaming adver tisement in another column. Maj. R<»ht. T. Touche : Genl. G. S. Black. It {jives us pleasure to an nounce the names of these two gentle men as candidates for the convention. They live in Floyd County and will we understand retrieve the unanimous sup port of'the good people of that county. Huh of them are well known to our people, having in years past lived a enoiiif m, and we hesitate not to say that it will afford our countrymen pleas ure to voir for them. We know nothing <d their particular views on any of the questions that will be before the Con vention, but we do know that they are able, and good men, who will do noth’* ino lodishonor their State, and all they umii, to save its honor and insure the good and prosperity of the whole coun try, without respect to individuals or classes. We commend them to the cordial support ol all men who wish to •see our lisiriet properlv represented. See his Advertisement. To (he Voters of (he 42 District- FtfLr.oiv Citizkxs :—At the request of many friends, I have consented to become a candid ate for the Constitutional Convention, anil at their earnest solicitation, I feel it my duty to briefly state iny views on some points of gr?at interest to the people. I accept of the con gressional plan of reconstruction,, as a r.e cessity, and thereby expedient. I have some anxiety about ttr-se prcg.ient amendments to the Cousiitution, and fear wa rn *y loose sight, after a while, of the original, and not have even a relic of it left, to remind us of the pure and palmy days o< the Republic- Although, some acts of Congress, may be ob noxious and very distasteful; nevertheless, I am willing to obey the laws of my country, be lieving, that obedience to law is the life of a natron. With regard to what kind of a Con stitution should be adopted, I can onlv say, I shall certainly vote for such a Constitution as will not foster to any interest, in conflict with the best inter ests of Georgia. The recent elections, in the Northern States, proves that there is a healthy reaction in favor of the Constitution of our fathers. Let us. of the Southern States, act inV.rict harmony with that reaction. I am in favor of the greatest, possible relief that can be obtained, without coming in conflict with the constitution To a liberal relief for the people, 1 shall, in the event of my election, ear nestly subscribe ; I am in favor ol free speech, a free press, and a system of free schools. I believe in defending education, throughout the masses. The greatest possible liberty, tor the individual man, and of the capability of the masses, for self government. I contend lor a strict construction of the constitution; as little government as possible, is my idea. There were, once, two great, najujal schools or parties, in this coun try, (the Whig and Democratic,) both schools were full of pure patriots, true lovers of their country, and. neither school ever taught treason. I was ed ucated in the former—until it went down with the immortal Clay—then I sought reffuge in the latter. It is alleg ed against me, that I was in the Union army, during the late war ; such, fellow citizens, was the fact, my mission was one of mercy, I was a surgeon, in the Union army, and tried to discharge mv duty faithfully, as many a Federal and Confederate soldier, can testify. I was in charge ofa hospital, and endeavored to relieve suflering humanity, so far as was in in v power. lam a native of the Valley of Virginia, but entered the annv from Southern Ohio, where I had been practicing medicine previous to the war. i have been a citizen of Bartow county since the surrender, engaged in agriculture. Here, I have made uiy home from choice, and here I desire to remain. 1 expect to labor, with all my might, to place Georgia where she properlv belongs, safely moored to the old Constitution. Such are my views. I shall try and meet the voters of the district as in rny power, between this and election, and will take great pleasure in answering any ques tion pertaining to the convention. Very respectiuliy, J. N. VANMETER. Kingston, Ga.. Oct. 21, 1867. Rome Ga,, October 4th 1367. Mr. Editor: —Actuated by an ear nest desire to secure (or Georgia the blessings of a good Constitution, I have eonseuled to become a candidate to represent the 42nd District, composed in the counties o< Bartow, Chattooga am! Floyd, in the event of the election to he held on the 29th, 30th and 3lst lust, results in the call of a convention. Verv respectfully, R.T. FOJLJCHE. TO THE VOTERS OF I’HE 42 ND CONVENTION DISTRICT. In compliance with the request of many partial friends, I beg herewith to announce myself a candidate for the State Constitutional Convention —tor the District composed ot the counties ot Bartow, Floyd and Chattooga. GEO. S. BLACK. |&-The unprecedented rush of trade to the store of Loewenstein & Pteifer, since the arrival of their new goods, as well ns the great decline in cotton, lias induced this enterprising house to reduce the price of goods to correspond with the decline in cotton. Their mot to is to sell at such prices as the people can afford to pay, and if they don’t make a profit at one time, they' will take their chances at another. They 3re determined to sell their goods and bu v so lie more, and by this course nev er to allow the dust to settle on their shelves. NOTICE TO FARMERSI N.
