Fine Tobacco
Messrs. Jordan. Howard A Harral-
F on, of the mammoth Tobacco House
in Atlanta, are selling immense quan
tities of the pure weed. Their stock
is emphatically a large one, composed
of all grades of both chewing and
Htnoking tobacco. Among the former,
they have a brand known and distin
guished ns “Old Brown Log Cabin,” ;
than which there is none better in
the market for sale, or now being man-’
ufactured. We have tried it and know ;
whereof we affirm.
The Press Excursion
Os Col. Hulbert, passed through this i
olace, vesterday ou a special train, on
1 heir' mission to examine and report
npeu the mineral interest of Tennes
see, North Alabama, and North Geor
ria. They were welcomed to our place j
bv Mai. Mark A. Cooper, in a short
and genteel little address, which was
replied to by Gov. Bullock, and Mr.
dishy of the Macon Telegraph, after
which the party were invited into the
Railroad Saloon to examine quite a
multitude of specimens of mineral ores,
the product of this region, and partake
of refreshments, prepared for the oc
casion by our citizens. The occasion
was poraewhat enlivened by music
from the Cartersville Brass Band, and
the presence of the ladies, lhere was
quite a train load of the party, com
posed principally of Editors and repre
sentatives of tho Press, together with
Gov. Bullock, Mayor Hulsey, of Atlan
ta, Col. E. Hulbert, Superintendent of
the W. A A. It. It., Maj. M. A. Cooper,
Attorney General Farrow, Senators,
Burns, Nuunally, Candler, and a host
of otLer distinguished gentlemen,
whose names wj did not get. The
party and our citizens had a pleasant
and agreeable interview of half an hour,
when the train rolled off with tho ex
cursion, carrying with them tho best
wishes of our citizens for the entire
success of their mission and safe return
to their homes. The “Express is rep
resented by our worthy and talented
young friend and fellow-citizen Thos.
W. Milner, who, doubtless, will give us,
next week, the jottings of his travels
and investigations.
80. Mr. Guthrie desires to inform
the people of our town that he has re
turned, and is ready to serve those
who may choose to honor him with a
call, with a glass of the ‘-Famous Arc
tic Soda Water,” or a plate of deli
cious Ice Cre im. It is useless for us
to say anything as to Mr. Guthrie’s
ability to make good Soda Water and
Ice Cream, for there is not the shad
ow of a doubt resting upon the minds
of those who ha ve tried it.
Ice Cream kept constantly on hand.

Pres Convention of the
State, assembled in Atlanta, on Tues
day last. Most of the papers were
represented. An organization was
had, and committees appointed to re
port on different subjects at the State
lair in Macon. The evening was
spent in riding over the city in fine
carriages furnished by the City Council.
West End, the Barracks, and other
prominent points were visited by the
press gang, as was also the Ware-
House of Messrs. Glenn, Wright &
Carr, where the Utley Cotton Press !
was put upon exhibition. After wit
nessing its practical workings, the sim
plicity of its construction, and the won
derful lever power, it was pronounced
by all, we think, to be the greatest in
vention of the age in the cotton and
hay Press line. The press were also
invited to test the quality of some
champagnes and domestic wines dona
ted by, wo don’t know who, but they
were pronounced to be very good, par
ticularly the Calif rnia wines, from the
Drug Store of W. A. Lansdell, so we
learn. Atlanta is certainly a “live
city,” and is destined to rank among
the first cities of the South. Her peo
ple are kind and hospitable, and full
of the spirit of enterprise. We feel
piond that the noble old State of Geor
gia can boast of such a great commer
cial mart. Her press are alive to her
interests.

own importation, and he wants to sell
them, and intends to sell them, if low
prices will effect their sale, together
with a large lot of Watches and Jew
elry, of nil styles. Some specimens of
his wares were on exhibition, at the 1
Fair, in Marietta, last week.
When you go to pass Marietta,

The Old Folks of Putnam. —The
Eatonton Press enters Putnam county
against the State for longevity. It
says:
“We are informed that there is one
person in the county, in good health,
over ninety-five; two over ninety;
! three over eighty-five; seventeen over
eighiy, and forty odd beyond seventy.
These are all males, and as the ladies
are a little squeamish on the subject,
we will not say anything as far as they
are concerned, as some are not yet
married and are not without hope.”
During the eclipse, an affection
ate young couple were on the top of a
house in Louisville. As the darkness
increased Celestina seized the arm of
Charles Augustus and whispered:
“Dearest, I am so frightened;” to
which the noble Charles touchingly
responded in tender but quaking ac
cents as be soothed her fears, while he
folded her to his manly bosom, “Let
this (the moment of the total eclipse)
be the happy moment (a kiss) which
gives her Charles (another) the hand
of (once more and all together) his
Celestina.” Exit moon.
Wheat is pouring into Richmond

mills, Gallego and Haxal’s, are running
day and night, and turning out six
thousand barrels of flour every twenty

Tiie Macon Postmaster. —The Macon
Telegraph of yestery morning, contains
the following:
“As some doubts have been express
ed about the re-appointment of Mr. J.
H. Washington as Postmaster of Ivla

gentleman holding a position in the
general, postoffiee department at Wash
ington, the question “ who is Postmas

answer —“J. H. Washington.”

A telegraph dispatch from Nashville

A close estimate as to the vote of the

Even East Tennessee, which everybody
predicted would go handsomely for Mr.

The legislature will bo pverTyhelmingly

House will have only about 11 oJ 12 of
that stripe. There will be three or tc'ur
Senter Republicans in the Senate, and
perhaps about twelve iu the House.
A straight-out Conservative will be
certainly sent to the United S. Senate,
and the impression now is that Emer
son Etheridge is the coming man. —
Andrew Johnson will fight desperately
to secure the position, but the opposi

FEMALE
REGULATOR.
“Womans Best Friend."
THIS VALUABLE MEDICINE Is prepared for'WO.
MEN exclusively, and to be u»e«l by WOMEN only,
{t i» adapted especially to those cases where the scow.*
I* disordered, and w ill cure any Irregularity in th«
"menses,” except in such cases as require a surgical
operation. As these last are v- ry rare, the FEMALE
REGULATOR Is of almost universal nppllcattcn. In
a sudden check of the “monthly courses,” from cold,
trouble of mlifd or like cause, tt acts like a charm, by
testorutg fc’is discharge in every instance, thus r#
lieving the fever, headache, pxln in the small of the
back amt ‘‘lower stomach,” flushes of heat about the
face, chilly sensations, burning of the eyelids snd geu
eral resllessne>s. Taken in time, all these symptoms
pass awav linmediate’y, without Injury to the consti
tution. Frequently, however, the proper remedy is not
applied In time, the disease becomes chronic, and the
foundation laid for numberless evils to the conrtltu
tion of woman. The next "torn” comes around aud
there is no “show,” or perhaps the “whites” all! ap
pear. There will be some uneasiness about the womb,
nut very little or none of the natural fluid escaping.—
The complexion becomes sallow, bowels swollen, a sort
of greenish caste about the face, constant dull aching
pains In the head, weight In the lower stomach and
back, with or without whites, palpitations of the htsrt,
| pallor, exhaustion. Indigestion, weariness, itrgour'
aching across the loins, loss of appetite, pain In left
i breast, tightness across the chest, cough and giddiness
[ If still allowed to go on, “green sickness" will tie fully
1 developed—tl.e headache becomes more severe, whs
! loss of memory, diminished sensibility, tick stomach
| dyspepsia, no relish for food, loss of ‘flesh. Increasing
| fluttering of the heart, meriting of the feet, legs snd
j body and occasional spitting of blood. The slightest
eirort causes hurried breathing, almostto suffocation
The skin Is flabby and has a “doughy feel.” This Is a
sad picture, but it is the cmdltlon of Ihoussnds of
women between the ages of 15 and 45, who are brought
to the verge of the grave by Ignorance or neglsrt to
take the proper wrtnedy. To ail who are afflicted with
aiy of the symptoms above mentioned, in connection
with an Irregularity of the ‘‘monthly sickness ’* we

Caeterstili.e, Oa., April 20, 18G9.
This will certify that two members o fry
immediate family, after having suffered for
many years from menstrual irregularity, and
have been treated without benefit by various
medical doctors, wore, at length, completely
cured by one bottle of Dr. J. ltrudfieid's Fk
male Regulator. I, therefore, deem it my
duty to furnish this certificate, with the hope
of drawing the attention of suffering woman
kind to the merits of a medicine, whose pow
er in curing irregular and suppressed men
struation, has been proven under my own
personal observation. Its effect on such
cases is truly wonderful, and well may ths
remedy be called “Woman’s Best Friend.”
Yours, respectfully,
JAS. W. STRANGE.
