TWO DOIXARS A VRAR, IN ADVANCE
CliCTltfi WORK TO THE iMff
A merchant of this pi»ce sent in an
account a few days a<r<> fnade out on
a bill-head which we knew had not
been print'd in Athens. W e inform
ed him that we could have bought
the goodb in New York for winch we
wen* then jwyinj; as easily as he fyot
his printing done there. He said he
wanted to get it as cheap as possible.
We replied we eotild nave more in
the purchase of good- than he could
in printing, and that if everybody
"houM adopt the policy of uncling to
New York for supplies, the mer
chants’ occupation would Ik* gone—
that they depended on their protits
for n support, and were the last per
sons on earth who set the example of
bestowing tfiefr patronage on other
oomnmnitietf—that if there was any
gfsid in it, we would all find it out
and adopt it, and they would lx* eom
fwlled to seek a livelihood at some
other business.
He acknowledged the justness of
our conclusions, and we then inquired
what his hill-heads had cost, and hart
the satisfaction of informing him that
we would furnish them at $2 less per
1000 than he had paid forthetn, wl iile
he admitted that ours were printed
in better style! He tlien showed us
some cards printed in New York,
which we found cost him jiuff <brvbfe
what we would have charged him
for them.
These facts will serve to show how
men overreach themselves some
times in attempting to get things
eiu-np. When a man settles down in
ft corniauftijy upon whose patronage
he is dependent for success, and sends
abroad for everything he wants, there
is a screw loose, certain.— A* hen*

with a large stock of books and sta

in the bindery was lost. The value of
Mr. John Locken’s property in the
bindery was a little over $15,000, on
which he suffered a loss of not over
$3,000, saving most of the machinery.
The minutes of the Tennessee Con

back from 1845, the time of the split

with the exception of those of the last

A GOOD ONE.
An Atlanta correspondent of the
Ncwnan Herald tells the following
good joke on our excellent Kimball
House.
1 learned of rather an amusing inci
dent which occurred at the 11. I.
Kimball House a short time since,
which was perpetrated by a citizen of
Coweta county, and which, for ridic
ulousness, is seldom surpassed by the
most notorious wit or humorist.
The person in question is an original
character, an oddity to all his ac
quaintances, and none better capaci
tated to crack a joke or enjoy good
fare.
Ih‘ gave liis order to a servant for j
dinner, which, for variety, was com- j
nlete. It being the custom of this J
nouse to furnish each article on a sep

rounded with numberless small ones, i
and after a few moments of intense j
enjoyment, spent in rapid masticat- '
ing, had emptied each dish of tempt
ing contents, then turning to the ser- ;

Ins own, informed him that he “ lik- ;

in calling a convention, as about all
that are left of the Radicals are mem
bers of the Central Committee, and as
they have nominated themselve* as
delegates to the convention, why not
let the nomination stand?

serious sickness and

use; and every family should have them on hand
for their protection and relief, when required.
Long experience has proved them to be the saf
est, surest, and best of all the Fills with which
the market aboonds. By their occasional use,
the blood is purified, the corruption* of the sys
tem expelled, obstructions removed, and the
whole machinery of life restored to its healthy
activity. Internal organs which become rlugg**
and sluggish are cleansed by Ayer’s Fills, and
stimulated into action. Thus incipient disease
is changed into health, the vahle of which change,
when reckoned on the vast multitudes who enjoy
it, can hardly be computed. Their sugar coating
makes them'pleasant to take, and preserves their
virtues unimpaired for any length of time, so
that thev are ever fresh, and perfectly reliable.
Although searching, they are mild, and operate
without disturbance to the constitution, or diet, or
occupation.
Full directions are given on tho wrapper to
each box, how to use them as a Family Physic,
and for the following complaints, which these
Fills rapidly cure
For Dyipcpda or Indigestion. lAstlesa
ness. Languor and I-oss of Appetite, they
should be taken moderately to stimulate Hie stom
ach, and restore its healthy tone and action.
For 3.1 rer Complaint and its varions symp
toms, nilloua lleadachr, Sick Head
ache. Jaundice orCireen Sickness. Hil
tons Colic and Bilious Fevers, they should
be judiciously taken for each case, to correct the
diseased action or remove the obstructions which
cause it.
For lirsenterr or Hiarrhoea, but one
mild dose is generally required.
For Rheumatism. Gout. Gravel. I’al
pltation of the Heart. Bain in the
hide. Back and Lolas, thev should be contin
uous! v taken, as required, to change the diseased
action of the system. IV ith such change
complaints disappear.
For Dropsy and Dropsical filings.
thev should be taken in large and frequent doses
to produce the effect of a drastic purge.
For Suppression, a large dose should be
taken, as it produces the desired effect by sym
pathy.
Asa Dinner Fill, take one or two Fills to
promote digestion and relieve the stomach.
An occasional dose stimulates the stomach and
bowels, restores the appetite, and Invigorates the
svstem. Hence it is often advantageous where
no serious derangement exists. One who feels
tolerably well, often finds that a dose of these
Fills makes him feel decidedly better, from their
cleansing and renovating effect on the digestive
apparatus.

poison of Fkvbu ato Aon: from tho system,
and prevents the development «.f the disease, if
taken on the first, approach of its premonitory
symptoms. It is not oply the best remedy ever
yet discovered for this class of complaints, but
also tho cheapest. Tho large quantity we sup
ply for a dollar brings it within tho reach of
everybody; and in bilious districts, where
Fever and Ague prevails, everybody should
have it, and use H freely, both for < me’and pro
tection. It is hoped this price will place it within
the reach of all —the poor ns well as the rich.
A great superiority ot this remedy over any
other ever discovered for the speedy and certain
cure of Intermittents is, that ii contains no Qui
nine or mineral; consequently it produces no
auinism or other injurious effects whatever upon
to constitution. Those cured by it are left as
healthy as if they had never had the disease.
Fever and Ague is not alone the consequence
of the miasmatic poison. A great variety of dis
orders arise from its irritation, among which
are Neuralgia, Rheumatism, Gout, Headache,
Blindness, Toothache, Earache, Catarrh, Astir
ma, Palpitation, Painful Affection of the .Spleen,
Hysterics, Pain in the Bowels, Colic, Paralysis,
and derangement of the Stomach, all of which,
when originating in this cause, put on the in
termittent type, or become periodical. This
“Cube” expels tho poison from tho blood, and
consequently cures them all alike. It is an in
valuable protection to immigrants and persons
travelling or temporarily residing in the mala
rious districts. If taken occasionally or daily
while’exposed to the infection, that will be ex
creted from the system, and cannot accumulate
in sufficient quantity to ripen into disease.
Hence it is even more valuable for protection
than cure; and few will ever suffer from Inter
mittents if they avail thcmsclres of the protec
tion this remedy affords.
For Fiver Complaints, arising from torpid
ity of the Liver, it is an excellent remedy, stim
ulating the Liver into healthy activity, and pro
ducing many truly remarkable cures, where
other ’medicines fad.
