EARLY COUNTY GRAND JURY
PRESENTMENTS.
WE, the Grand Jury ehomm and sworn for
the April Term of 1859, of the county of
Early do wake ibo following present uieutir:
Ist. We have through our Committees exam
iiied the Hooks of the Clerks of the Superior *nd
inferior Courts, Ordinary and County Treasurer:
we*find them kept iu a neat and correct manner,
all reflecting much credit upon their several offi
ces. We lind claims from Teachers of poof
children in the hands of the Ordinary for the sum
of $679.0?, it being the whole amount of that turn!
iu his hands, leaving h deficit of now
due said Teachers. Wo find in the bund* of the
county Treasurer the suui of $ 12k.00 general coun
ty funds, und the sum of $99.52 Jury funds.—
We also learn that the sum of $106,60 of the
general county funds, and the sum of $87*36 Jun
luud is still due the county from the lax VJollec
tor upon the last year's tux.
2d. We the Committee of Public Buildings do
find the Jail iu an unsafe condition, and recom
mend that the Inferior Court have the doors cas
ed and faced sides and edges with iron \# of an
inch thick, and strongly fastened with bolts and
staples, and the bolts to the eased parts brnded
ou the staples tor the outside; the window* to
have bar? of iron, on the side of the casing, hi
side and outside, ihticuod with bolt* and staple* i
the same as ( t he doors; and also to have new
strong locks fur the iuaide door. Wo find the
Court lloium completed except the columns iu
front.
fcffdWe find|our oublic roads in a'very bad condi
tion, especially tne foftd leading from Blakely to
Morgan. Most of our roads are almost hnpnst-'it
ble, and we recommend the Inferior Court to en
force the rowri Law* rigidly, causing the Com nils
aioner to put the roads in order forthwith.
4th. We recommend a bridge to be built over
Sowhatchee crock, on the river road, at then lace
known ua lieye's Ford, and request the Inferior
Court to take some notion on this subject a; -uoti
as they can.
sth. On the subject of free schools, we adopt
the attached printed circular, known ms the plan
of Mr. T. K. R. Cobb.
6th. We recommend the Inferior Court to levy
a tax of 20 per cent upon the Slate Tux lor the
Common School Fund.
7th. To his Honor Judge Kiddoo, we tender
our thanks for his diligence and promptness c\-
ereiaed in the discharge of his oflielal duties. To
the Bnl. Gen. pro tern., Arthur lloud, Esq., we al
so tender our thanks for his courtesy and assis
tance to this body.
Bth. We recommend the Clerk of the Superior
Court to have these presentments published in
the Columbus Times.
