Part.*!!.—The Philadelphia Bulletin of last
Saturday evening has the following commenda
tion Os Miss Evans's last book :
The name of the author of this volume is new
to us, but she will make it well and favorably
known to the world. Her book, if it is a maiden
effort, is a remarkable one, and tn any case it is
an execlleut uno. The story, simply its a story,
Is one of well sustained interest, with ouroful
drawn characters and animated, easy dialogue.—
But she aims and accomplishes something beyond
this. Sho has studied and thought much on the
ological and philosophical subjects, ami she car
riM several ot her characters through the stages of
doubt that so often embarrass young minds, iuto
a staie of healthy, happy faith in sound religion.
A little diffusiveness ot style may be excused
where there is so much to admire, and there is
really so much of the latter thst wo eau heartily
recommend the story as one of the best and utost
instructive that ha* lately appeared.

Ayer’s Sarsaparilla
A compound remedy, in which we have la.
bored to produro the most effectual alterative
that can ae made. It is a concentrated extr au
of Para Sarsaparilla, &o combined with other
substances of still greater alterative power a*
to afford an effective antidote for tho diseases
Saraaparilia ia reputed to cure. It is believed
that such a remedy ia wanted by those who
suffer from Strumous complaints, and that one
which will accomplish their cure must prove
of immense service to this large class of our
afflicted fellow-citizens. How completely this
compound will do it has been proven by exper
iment on many of the worst cases to be found
of the following complaints:
Scrofula and Scrofulous Complaints,
Eruptions and Eruptive Disbasf.B, Ulcers,
Pimples, Blotches, Tumors, Salt Rhicm,
Scald Head, Syphilis and Syphilitic Af
vlcttons. Mercurial Disease, Dropht, Neu
ralgia or Tic Douloureux, Drbility, Dys
pepsia and Indio F-snox, Erysipelas, Hose
or Sr. Anthon y’s Fihe, and indeed tho whole
class of complain w aribiug from Impurity of
the Blood.
This napound will be found a great pro-
UDter of health, when taken in the spring, to
expel the foul humors which fester in the
blcod at that season of tho year. By the time
ly expulsion of them many rankling disorders
are nipped in the bud. Multitudes can, by
tho aid of this remedy, spare themselves from
the endurance of foul eruptions and ulcerous
sores, through which tho system will strive to
rid itself of corruptions, if not assisted to do
this through the natural channels of the body
by an alterative medicine. Cleanse out the
vitiated blood whenever you find its impurities
bursting through tho skin in pimples, eruptions,
or soros; cleanse it when you find it is ob
structed and sluggish in the veins; cleanse it
whenever it is foul, and your feeling 9 will tell
ru when. Even where no particular disorder
felt, people enjoy better health, and liva
longer, for cleansing the blood. Keep the
blood healthy, and nil in well; but with this
pabulum of lifo disordered, there can be no
tasting health. Sooner or later something
nULst go wrong, and the great machinery of
life is disordered or overthrow'll.
Sarsaparilla has, and deserves much, the
reputation, of accomplishing these ends. But
the world lius been egregiously deceived by
preparations of it* partly because the drug
alone has not all the virtue that is claimed
for it, but more because many preparations,
pretending to bo concentrated extracts of it,
contain but little of tlie virtue of Sarsaparilla,
or any thing else.
During late year* the public have been mis
led by large bottles, pretending to give a uuart
of Extract of Sarsaparilla for one dollar. Most
of these have been frauds upon the kick, for
they not only contain little, if any, Sarsapa
rilla. but often no curative properties w hatev
er. Hence, bitter and painful disappointment
has followed the use of tlie various extracts oi’
Sarsaparilla whioh flood tlie majket, until the
name itself is justly despised, and has become
synonvmout with imposition and cheat. Still
we call this compound Sarsaparilla, and intend
to eupply irach a remedy as shall rescue the
name from the load of obloquy which ream
upon it. And we think we have ground for
believing it has virtues which are irresifitible
by the ordinary run of the diseases it is intend
ed to cure, fn order to secure their complete
eradication from the system, the remedy should
be judiciously taken according to directions cm
the bottle.
