The New York Tribune pretends to give an
account of the manner in which the steamer
Bermuda, with its cargo of arm*, etc, suc
ceeded in entering Savannah, fta informant
waa a gentleman recently arrived from this
city via Louisvillo. We quote
He assures ns that Mr. Kdward C. Anderson,
an ex-Meyor of Savannah, went over to Eng
‘and in Lord Deae's yacht America, which
was, if our memory serves us, in the port of
Charleston sometime in June, for the express
purpose of bn yiag arms. The Bermuda was
rent out hr Mr. Anderson, and brought 0,000
Enueld rifles purchased by him. un
derstand hy our informant, is only one install
ment of Mr. Anderson's purchases, as three to
fire more steamers are looked for with confi
dence at Savannah, nil to bring arras. The
Bermuda gets, of online, a high freight on
these arms, but her profit will be still larger
on a return cargo of ooMOI, should she be aa
fortunate in getting out as she Was in getting
in ; and the double chance of u good voyage
both ways is inducement enough for all
these n'ranicri to tnke the risk of enpture.—
The Bermuda, ft seems, was expected, and
may possibly have been signalled somewhere
on the const. At any rate, ntthe precise mo
ment to suit her convenience, a heavy cannon
ading whs opened at a distent post by the reb
els, and the blockade hastened thither to n
curtain its cause. When out of sight the Ber
muda slipped in.

Among the reaolutiona adopted by the late

recommending that the Planters should not sail

aud we hope the planters will act upon it. It
is perfect folly to sacrifice cotton at the prices
which it uow coinoiands. It >* the universal
opinion of those who claim to know anything
about it, that the blockade will not last through
the winter, and it is aa plain as that two and
two make four, that cotton will advance as
soon as that obstacle to the trade ia removed.

Held on to your cotton therefore. If you are
