Fonr bams Lave utdonbtlT been
burned in this town within a fow
years past as the direct result of
carelessness. In one case a match,
which had been lit to afford a mo
mentary light, was thrown down in
the dirt on the barn-.'oor, where it
started a slow fire, which gradually
extended to the hay-mow. In anoth
er instance the enterprising owner
shot an owl in the barn and killed
him—and burned the barn. When
ever it is necessary to fire a gun
about buildings, woo! iiismhl be used !
for wadding, as it will not readily
take fire from the powder. Sponta
neous combustion, it iq bartrved,
caused the burning of the other two,
one by the heat from a big pile of
damp buckwheat chaff, and the otto r
by hen- manure oedet the hhed, mik
ed with straw and other tnacnru. in
acme instance* building have barely
escaped. One ol our citizens was
sitting in bis bouse one evening in
autumn, and happening to put his
hand against the wall he found it so
hot. as to nearly burn him. Seeking
for the cause, he found it to be beat
from the banking around the dwel
ling, which waa buckwheat chaff
He did not go to bed until that bank
ing waa removed. The house would
undoubtedly have burned before
morning. Another man, just at night
loaded liia wagon with the droppings
of the barn-yard, and then added
some ben-manure and ashes, and as
it was lale.left the wagon standing
until the next morning. Fortunate
ly be did not run it into any build
ing, for the next day he found it on
fire in three places. The dirt from a
large grist mill was swept out of the
back door, and here, too, a lot of
shavings were thrown. One night
the mill burned down. The fire
started at the very place where this
(iebru was rottiug. A farmer who
leaves the hen-manure to accumulate
during the summer, or lets the horse
manure remain in the yard, run the
risk of having to build anew barn.
Every building should be kept clear
of litter, within and without, aud no
violence will ha done to chemical
laws nor to good taste.— Cur. N. Y.

Formula,
Twenty-five bushels well rotted
stable manure.
Three bushels unleashed Wood
ashes.
Two bushela finely pulverized char
coal.
Eight pounds carbonate of ammo
nia.
Twelve ppurahe ofobonate f soda.
Thirty pounds common salt.
Dissolve the ammonia in water,
mix all the ingredients well together
and apply about 1100 pounds per acre.
It will be ready far use fs gooti as
mixed and the sooner it is applied
the better.
The manure, ashes and charcoal
con be produced on any farm. On
too many, enough of these materials
to fertilize a dosten acres are annual
ly wastod. The expense of ths aru
mcicis, tod* and salt will not exceed
$2 per ton.
This fertilizer cau he applied by
thoroughly Tiartawing the ground af
terwards. For potatoes, corn or
similar crops, scatter freely in the
drill or put it in the hill with tho
seed. If desired, the quautity of
wood ashes and charcoal can he in
creased without detriment, especially
for potatoes. The beuefleitd effects
of this compound are observable for
several years. —Plahtet rft Orange.

chocolate, divided like the latter by
lines, to facilitate breaking into pieces
of suitable size for use. The iuterior
surface of the mold is highly polished,
by which meaus tho outer crust of

LIVER PILLS,
FOR TUB CURE OF
Hepatitis, or Liver Complaint,
UYlfpnn ASfc UCK HKAIMCHS.
Symptoms of a Diseased Liver.
PAINP in the tight side, under the
edge of the ribs, increases on pres
sure; sometimes the pain is in the left
side: the patient is rarely, rtsfc to lie
onfftc left side; sometime* fW pain is
felt under the shoulder blade, and it
frequently extends to the top of the
shoulder, and is sometimes mistaken
for rheumatism in the arm. The
stomach is aflSrted with loss of appe
tite ana sickness; the bowels in gen
eral are costive, sometimes alternative
with lax; the head is troubled with
pain, accompanied with a dull, heavy
sensation in the back part. There is
generally a considerable loss of mem
ory, accompanied with a painful sen
sation of having left undone some
thing which ought to have been done.
A slight, dry cough is sometimes an
attendant. The patient complains of
weariness and debility; he is easily
startled, his feet are cold or burning,
and he complains of a prickly sensa
tion of the skin; his spirits are low;
and although he is satisfied that exer
cise would Tie beneficial to him, yet
he can scarcely summon up fortitude
enough to try it. In fact, he distrusts
every remedy. Several of the above
symptoms attend the disease, but cases
have occurred where few of them ex
isted, yet examination ol the body,
after death, has shown the liver to
have been extensively deranged.
AGUE AND F EVER.
Dr. C. McLank’s I.ivkr Pills, in
cases ov ACuk and Fevkr, when
taken with Quinine, are productive of
the most happy results. No better
cathartic can be used, preparatory to,
or after taking Quinine. We would
advise alt who are afflicted with this
disease to give them a fair trial.
For all bilious derangements, and as
j a simple purgative, they are unequaled.
