THE EXCELLENCE OF SYRUP OF FIGS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fig Syrup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fig Syrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other par
ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fig Syrup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the name of

Judge Newsome Struck Him.
A right good joke is told on Judge J.
J. Kimsey by his White county friends.
1 hey tell it as Judge Kimsey’s own joke
on himself. After the Judge had been
admitted to the bar, and while he was
quite a young man, he ran for the Legis
lature and was elected. Like all other
green material, the professional leg-pull
er formed his acquainance and won his
confidence. This professional dead-beat
approached the young statesman, and
after catching his ear told him that he
had been in the Legislature now for some
months and had made a fine record, and
for five dollars he could procure a credit
able write-up which would give him some
state notoriety and add considerable to
his reputation at home, as his local
county paper would be pleased to repro
duce the article with favorable com
ments.
The Judge jewed the bum down to
three dollars and some cents, paid the
money over, and watched in vain for the
complimentory notice. As the bum did
not tell him what paper the notice would
appear in, he was forced to read all the
state papers for some time or fail to reap
the fruits of his investment. As no notice
appeared in any of them he finally de
cided that his leg had been pulled by a
dead-beat. “For years I kept this secret,
as I was ashamed to tell it,” the Judge
is quoted as saying by his friends when
he recalls some of his early political ex
perience. Doubtless numbers of other
green members were keeping a similar
secret for the same reason and because
of this fact the professional leg puller
was never detected by amateur politi
cians.
That Joyful Feeling
With the exhilerating sense of renewed
health and strength and internal cleanli
ness, which follows the use of Syrup of
Figs, is unknown to the few who have
not progressed beyond the old-time med
icines and the cheap substitutes some
times offered but never accepted by the
well-informed. Buy the genuine. Man

An Old Idea.
Every day strengthens the belief of emi

cause of the majority of our diseases.
Twenty-five years ago this theory was used
as a basis for the formula of Browns’ Iron

by this famous old household remedy are
sufficient to prove that the theory is correct.
