How is Your Grip ?
Not getting along as i-ell as you ex
pected? That is the way grip acts when
it is not taken in hand and driven out of
the system at once. The poisons left by
the grip germs keep right on destroying
the vitality and undermining the health.
You lose your appetite for food and
what little you eat seems to do no good.
Your nerves are unstrung, you become
weak and exhausted and finally you are
overpowered by some chronic disorder
which takes you to an untimely grave.
Why should you let the grip run until
it gets such a hold on you when a few
bottles of Dr. Miles’ Nervine would fix
you up all right? It is the greatest
nerve medicine and health restorer ever
known and thousands of grip's victims
are finding in it a safe and sure means of
regaining lost strength and vitality.
“I found myself with a very weak
stomach, and every time I tried to eat
I would become nauseated, sometimes
belching wind and frequently finding
relief only after vomiting. My nerves
became affected and I was almost blind
for several months. Finally I began
using Dr. Miles’ Nervine; and when I
had used one bottle I was greatly im
proved. After taking two more bottles
my stomach trouble was entirely gone
and I have had no return of the symp
toms in over three years.”
Mrs. L. L. Winters,
Gwynneville, Ind.
A trial package of Dr. Miles’ favorite
treatment for the grip, consisting of Dr.
Miles’ Nervine, Dr. Miles’ Anti-Pain
Pills and Dr. Miles’ Nerve and Liver
Pills, will be sent absolutely free of cost
to any person sending name and address
on a postal card, requesting the sample,
and mentioning the name of this paper.

Grave Stones Down.
Considerable damage was done the city
cemetery by the recent storm. It is
located on a very high point with natural
drainage in every direction from the
center. It overlooks the city and from
it one can get a good view of the Blue
Ridge mountains. In it is to be found
some of the best work of tbe sculptor,
shaded by the forest oaks which nature
planted, and surrounded by flowers and
shrubs which were put there by loving
hands. But the blizzard came and all
of the flowers are dead. The recent
storm overturned the slabs and shafts
which marked the graves of the follow
ing persons: Mrs. W. H. Terry, Joe
Duskin, Judge Rice, Martin R. Archer,
Dr. Brock, M. W. Finger, child of H. 11.
Smith, Ira Gaines, Mrs. Cicero Chapman
and tbe child of Mack Mabry.
On finding these down one week after
the storm had passed, the question “Why
have they not been replaced?” naturally
presents itself to the mind. On investi
gation we find that it is in no sense tbe
duty of the city or of the sexton. These
lots are private property and the re
erection of these tombs will be left to
relatives.
Rev. E. Edwards, pastor of the English
Baptist church at Minersville, Pa., when
suffering with rheumatism, was advised
to try Chamberlain’s Pain Balm. He
says: “A few applications of this lini
ment proved of great service to me. It
subdued the inflammation and relieved
the paiu. Should any sufferer profit by
giving Pain Balm a trial it will please
me.” For sale by M. C. Brown A Co.
State Baptist Convention.
The State Baptist convention will be
held this year in Savannah. It will con
vene at the First Baptist church of that
city the 31st instant. Dr. W. W. Lan
drum of Atlanta has been chosen to
preach the introductory sermon. Dr. J.
A. Wynne of this city has been selected
as alternate. Dr. Landrum is a very able
man, but should he fail to preach we can
assure the people of the city by the sea
that Dr. Wynne will preach them a most
excellent sermon. But few men are so
gifted in this respect as he. All of tbe
delegates from the churches here have
not as yet been agreed on, as only those
who can attend will be finally selected.
T. B. Rice, Druggist, Greensboro, Ga.,
writes as follows: “In the past eight
years, I have sold moie of Dr. Pitt’s
Carminative than ail the soothing syrups,
colic drops, and,, other baby medicines
combined.” Sold by E. E. Dixon & Co.
The City Hall.
The plans of the city hall have long
since been agreed on; the old city stables
have been sold at public outcry and
removed; contracts for a greater portion
of the material has been let; more than a
car of lumber is now on the grounds;
work has been begun, and in a short
time we will see a city hall looming up
which will be the pride of our people for
several generations to come.
Rheumatism Cured in a Day.
“Mystic Cure” for Rheumatism and
Neuralgia radically cures in 1 to 3 days.
Its action upon the system is remarkable
and mysterious. It removes at once the
cause and the disease immediately dis
appears. The first dose greatly benefits.

Prof. Boggs Talks.
Dr. W. E. Boggs, chancellor of tbe
State University at Athens, lectured at
the court bouse last Friday evening. His
subject was, “College Training in the
University of Georgia.” The court room
was full of people. The speaker was
introduced by H. H. Perry who brought
him and audience into close touch by a
few appropriate remarks. Dr. Boggs
stepped forward and after referring to
the introduction said he would use the
good judgment that so distinguished a
lawyer as the one who introduced him
would use on any ordinary occasion:
He would not speak from the stand but
get down where he would be close to his
jury. It was not a lecture but a talk;
full of wisdom and humor; profound in
some respects, yet so simple that the
small school boy could comprehend it.
The central idea which he presented was
to make perfect (or as near as it is pos
sible to do so) men of our boys. He
went into details to show how this end
was accomplished. He also defended
the school against the charge of immor
ality among the students. When he con
cluded after an hour’s talk many ex
pressed themselves as feeling an in
terest in the University which they had
not heretofore felt.
I have been afflicted with rheumatism
for fourteen years and nothing seemed
to give any relief. I was able to be
around all the time, but constantly suf
fering. I had tried everything I could
bear of and at last was told to try Cham
berlain's Pain Balm, which I did, and
was immediately relieved and in a short
time cured. lam happy to say that it
has not since returned.—Josh. Edgar,

Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy.
This remedy is intended especially for
coughs, colds, croups, whooping cough
and influenza. It has become famous
for its cures of these diseases, over a
large part of the civilized world. The
most flattering testimonials have been
received, giving accounts of its good
works; of the aggravating and persistent
coughs it has cured; of severe colds that
have yielded promptly to its soothing
effects, and of the dangerous attacks of
croup it has cured, often saving the life
of the child. The extensive use of it for
whooping cough has shown that it robs
that disease of all dangerous conse
quences. Sold by M. C. Brown A Co.
Rucker Fired at Train.
Maysville, Ga., March 13.—A son of
Colonel Tinney Rucker, the well known
lawyer, fired on the northbound train
from Athens to Lula with a double
barrel shotgun, the load passing through
the window of the coach and came near
hitting Mr. Cox, conductor.
Tbe train backed and telegraphed to
Athens for the boy’s arrest. Young
Rucker claimed not to know that his
gun was loadad.

An Excellent Combination.
The pleasant method and beneficial
effects of the well known remedy,
Syrup of Figs, manufactured by the
California Fig Syrup Co., illustrate
the value of obtaining the liquid laxa

medicinally laxative and presenting
them in the form most refreshing to the

is the one perfect strengthening laxa
tive, cleansing the system effectually,
dispelling colds, headaches and fevers
gently yet promptly and enabling one

The Dog-Gone Ordinance.
Tuesday City Clerk Boone issued bis
first order to a citizen of tbe city to
remove his dog to a place beyond the city
limits. The order was issued under sec
tion 228 of the City Code, which provides
for the issuing of such an order and the
punishment of any person who fails to
comply with such an order after it has
been issued. If a dog barks a great deal
it the» becomes a nuisance and its owner
is subject to such an order, or if the dog
is dangerous its owner is subject to be
forced to remove the dog from the city.
In this case the order was served on J.T.
Hargrove, whose dog has proved trouble
some to people passing on the street, and
on last Saturday Tom Sain’s little son
was bitten by it. The execution of the
dog or its banishment from the city must
follow this act.
