John C. Dorsey left Tuesday
night for Augusta to enter the
Southern Embalming College,
where he will complete bis course
in embalming and receive a diploma.
Mr L W. Day
Os near Gillsville died yesterday, after
a long illness from dropsy of the hearts.
Mr. Day was about 40 years of age and
leaves a wife and seven children. He
was, by marriage, a nephew of W. A.
Crow of Gillsville and B. B. l anders of
this city.
Mr. Day was a consistent member of
the Baptist church and an excellent citi
zen. He was a man of high integrity,
who enjoyed the confidence of those who
had business dealings with him and the
friendship of all his fellow citizens.

Pork, like beef, is advancing in price
so fast as to astonish buyers and con
sumers. Tuesday the packing house
price of pork reached 10 1-4 cents per
pound. This is the highest price it has
been quoted at for a number of years.
W. T. Harrison says that it was higher
than at any time since he has been in the
brokerage business. However, it dropped
down 15 points yesterday.
Dr. Wray Looper
Arrived in the city Tuesday from At
lanta, where he graduated the evening
before from the Dental College. Dr.
Looper will probably locate here and
open an office in a very short time. His
many friends throughout the country
wish him unlimited success in the prac
tice of his chosen profession.

Veterans’ Great Time.
The numerous old soldiers who at
tended the Confederate Veterans’ reuu- 1
ion at Dallas, Texas, have returned home ,
and report a most delightful trip. Major
Gaston in speaking of the grand time
they all had says that he never saw any
thing to equal it. At the time the Major
was speaking about it he was full of en
thusiasm, and his vivid descriptions of
the scenes conveyed a very clear idea of
what took place, and was the next thing
to witnessing them.
Mr. T. 0. Watkins.
A prosperous merchant of Griffin, will
move to the city in a short time and open
a general dry goods and clothing estab
lishment in the Candler building on the
east side of the public square. He was
here Tuesday and leased this storeroom

Watkins hopes to open business by June

The Teachers’ Pay.
State Treasurer Parke has written Com
missioner Robertson that he can not give
him accurate information as to the date
when the second payment will be made to
the school teachers of Hall county. He
expects to make the payment some time
during the month of May, and promises
to do all in his power to hasten the time.
Commissioner Robertson has arranged
to borrow money at 8 per cent for those
teachers who wish to have their money
now.
To Discuss Bond Election.
A rousing big meeting will be held
to night at the Court house to discuss
the bond election. Every man who is
interested in the progress and growth
of the city is expected to attend.
Several speeches will be made, cover
ing all the improvements for which the
boijds are to be issued.
The meeting will be entertaining jand
the relative cost of each improvement
fully discussed to the satisfaction of
every one.

The Athens Presbytery,
Which convened a few days ago in Toc
coa, honored the Presbyterian church of
this city by selecting Rev. L. A. Simpson
as minister and H. H. Dean as delegate
