v. / Nation’s Leaders Praise the Boy Scouts. A few weeks since the National Council of the Boy Scouts of Amer ica met in Washington, and many members of congress and national officers who have expressed deep interest in the Scout movement, were in attendance upon the con vention. Secretary of State Bryan and of the Navy Daniels turned aside from duties to speak praises of Scout work. President Wilson was sick at the time and had to callj off his speech and reception at the White House. Mr. Wilson is President of the Scouts. Why doesn't Toccoa have a Scout troop? We understant that such will be discussed at the First Bap tist Church Sunday night. That the Boy Scout movement is paving the way for a better genera tion of men was the declaration of Secretary Daniels at a luncheon of Washington scout masters,(Monday. “We need such an organization as the Boy Scouts,” he said. “Even greater than the physical exercises is the spirit of cleanness of life and cleanliness of thinking.—Toccoa Record. Returns Thanks. Editor Eagle: Please allow me£space in which to thank the people, one and all, who were so loyal to me in my recent race for County Treasurer. Although I was defeated, I have the consciousness of having made a clean race, and had I been elected, I could have had no higher appre ciation of the loyal support of my many friends than I have, and shall ever feel grateful to them for their loyal support and generous hospital ity extended me during my canvass. Fraternally, THOS. W. WEST. Esquimau Orders A Typewriter Edmonton, Alberta, April 13.—J. Cornwall Fraser, a member of the tribe of blond Eskimos living at the mouth of the Mackenzie river in the sixty-ninth parallel of latitude, has commissioned a local trading com pany to ship a typewriting machine, with the latest approved attachments to his hut on the roof of the earth 2,200 miles north of Edmonton. Fraser, who is a trapper, hunter and pathfinder, was educated in an English mission school at Point Barrow, one of the northern out posts. He has never been south of the sixty-fifth parallel inside the Arctic Circle. Officers of the trading companies operating in the district report he is one of the best-posted men in the far north country. He speaks and ■writes the English language fluently, :and is familiar with conditions and affairs throughout Canada, the United States and Europe, as the result of wide and varied reading of newspapers and magazines that have been given him. Egg dealers need have no fear of foreign competition if all imported ■eggs are like a consignment of 14,400 ■dozen received at Philadelphia from Russia a day or two ago. Expert can dlers went over the shipment and as a result 9,000 dozen eggs were de stroyed, while the remainder are to be given another inspection. If scar city of food has anything to do with raising prices Russia would do well to eat her own eggs while they are fresh, and so save them. One of the greatest laws in mili tary science was laid down by For rest, the great Confederate cavalry leader, and he could hardly write his own name. It was this: “Get there first with the most men.” In figting life's battle, be among the first on the ground in every good work and fight the good fight of faith.
