No Need To Seek Afar. The Evi
dence Is at Your Door.
No need to leave Gainesville to
hunt up proof, because you have it
here at home. The straightforward
statement of a Gainesville resident
like that given below, bears an in
terest for every man, woman or
child in Gainesville.
H. G. Strickland, 1()5 W. Wash
ington St., Gainesville, says: “A
few years ago I was doing work
which was hard on my kidneys, and
1 began to have kidney trouble.
There was an aebt across the small
of my back almost constantly and I
was annoyed by dizzy spells and
headaches. 1 also had rheumatic
pains in my limbs which at times
laid me up for two or three days.
One box of Doan’s Kidney Pills
helped me, and after I had taken
three boxes I was free from kidney
disease. The rheumatic pains left
and my back stopped paining me.
The other symptoms of the trouble
disappeared.”
Price 50c, at all dealers. Don’t
simply ask for a kidney remedy—get

DON’ITAKE
WRONG MEDICINE
If your liver gpts lazy you need a
liver tonic, not m'-relya laxative for
the bowels. Many people take a
simple laxative when the liver gets
slugglish rather than take calomel,
which they know to t»e very danger
ous. But a mere laxative will not
start a sluggish liver. What is
needed is a tonic that will liven up
the liver without son ing you to stay
at home and lose a day froTn your
jyork.
You have such a tonic in Dodson’s
Liver Tone. Dodson's Liver Tone
is all that is claimed for it, because
the druggists who sell it agree to
hand back the money with a smile,
to any person not satisfied with the
relief Dodson’s gives.
Dodson's Liver Tone is a vegeta- :
hie liquid with a very pleasant taste)
and is a prompt ami reliable remedy
for constipation, biliousness, sour j
stomach and torpid liver.
Dr. J. B. George gives it his per
sonal guarantee. Large bottle of
Dodson’s Li ver Tone is only 59 cents. ;
For children or grown people it is
the ideal medicine. Try it on. the

Snakes in India.
While the slaughter resultingfrom
the present European war horrifies
the whole world the official figures
probably will show that the number
of deaths will not exceed the total
number of human beings killed by
snakes in India in the twenty-five
years from 1887 to 1911. In that
period the number of lives lost by
snake bites in India totaled 543,991,
an average of 21,760 annually. Dur
ing the same time snakes caused
the death ot 187,436 cattle.

The Russian Open Door.
I
i Sergius Sazonoff, minister of
I foreign affairs for Russia, has issued
[ a categorical invitation to English
j and American manufacturers to
prepare to cater to the Russian trade
formerly held by Germany.
In a press statement he says that
! German exports to Russia before the
outbreak of war aggregated $500,-
000,000. He declares this tremendous
sum must now be reaped by sources
other than German, and specifies
America especially as the country
that will profit from the great
readjustment now under way.

Portland, Ore., has not had a fatal
automobile accident in nine months.
There are plenty of crowded streets
there are plenty of automobiles.
There is also a rock pile which is the
reason speeding has stopped in the
streets, and that in turn is the reason
therehas beenadearth of fatal auto
mobile accidents. Speeders have
been told they will be sent to break
rocks and they have decided to re
strain their mania for hitting only
the high places. Portland’s rock
pile deserves to be written down as
a very efficient saver of life.

GAINESVILLE MIDLAND WENT
INTO NEW OFFICES MONDAY.
General Offices in Second Story of Magnificent
New Building—Passenoer Station to
be Thrown Open Next Monday.
General Manager Beauprie and
his able force of assistants moved
into the Gainesville Midland’s new
offices Monday morning, and are
now at home for good.
After tin* Midland broad-gauged
its tracks and went through to Ath
ens the traffiic became so heavy that
they had to leave their general offi
ces in the old station and hunt new
and more roomy quarters. These
they found in the old Presbyterian
church, which is now St. Paul.
Their business grew so rapidly
that they were again compelled to
move to wider quarters, which they
found over the Southern Express-
Company’s offices, where they had
since been located.
About three months ago it was de
cided by the authorities to build a
new station that would give ample
room for their general offices and
accommodation for waiting rooms,
ticket office, freight depot, etc.
Mr. Levi Prater of this city was
given the management of construct
ing the buildings, which he did with
credit to himself, the company, and
the city of Gainesville, and no short
road in the State has a prettier sta
tion than the Gainesville Midland.
The offices on the first floor and
the waiting rooms will not be open
until sometime next week.
Gainesville should feel proud of
splendid passenger and freight de
pots.
Professor at Oxford.
Mr. Haywood Pearce left Tuesday
morning for Oxford, Ga. He will t>e
assistant English professor in Emory
college and at the same time study
for an A. M. degree.
Married Sunday.
Mr. Eldora George and Miss Leila
Pruitt were married Sunday morn
ing in the pastor’s study at the First
Baptist church after the Sunday
School hour, coming up from Tad
more district to have the nuptials
tied. Mr. M. C. Brown and Mr. A.
S. Hardy witnessed the ceremony,
which was performed by Rev. J. E.
Hampton.
Woodrow Had a Birthday.
Woodrow Wilson had a birthday
last Saturday. He was oue year
old. No, it wasn’t President Wood
row Wilson, but Woodrow Wilson
Reed, son of Talkin’ Ben Reed down
Poplar Springs way. And Talkin’
Ben says he is a flue boy and will
oue day be President himself.
Talkin’ Ben fell in love with the
President before his nomination and,
when the little boy arrived at his
home he gave him the President’s
full name.
Mexico Represented in the War.
The Missouri Mule is to give way
to his brother, the Mexican burro,
so far as the French are concerned,
a contract being closed with Gen.
Francisco Villa to supply 10,(MX) of
the little animals to the French
Government.
Being cheaper than the American
mules and equally as effective i
transporting supplies, the burros
have been given the preference by
purchasing agents. It is said that
Gen. Villa considered the order for
the burros a joke until he was offered
$5.00 apiece for them, when he quick
ly realized that nobody was “kid
ding” and sent 300 of his men into
the hills of Northern Chihuahua to
round up the animals for shipment.
They will be shipped to France by
way of Galveston. Thus Mexico in
directly will play a part in the vast
struggle that has divided all Europe
into two armed camps.
