We wit! take wood or pro visions. at market pi ices, it) pay for sub scriptions. Although anxious for patronage, we prefer a limited cash business to au ex tended credit one. (f Pon't steal tm>, for I am private prop erty, bought ami paid for by a subscriber— one who sustains the press, and wishes to readme. Don't borrow me. for my owner don t it 'e it; and, besides, the mae.ine will turn you out a copy just like me fir ;eu cents, and you ought to sustain the press. Subscribe forme, and keep your conscience easy. Hamilton Visitor Six Brothers —There are now s‘x brothers living, the sons of Titos. A, William*, Esq., who diyd here in 1853. Their names are, Jno. TANARUS., J. F. C, Benj. 11., Chas. L, Britain, and Ozias S. They were all in the a-‘my —the first as a private in the 3d Ga. cavalry; the second as captain of a company from this county—the Mountain Tigers: the third as a pri vate in the Ist Ga, Begt.; the fourth as a lieutenant in the 20ih Ga.; and the two last as cadets in the State troops. They all made good soldiers, •and came safe through the war. J, T. was recently re-elected Justice of the Peace for this District; J. F. C. is filling his second term as Ordinary of the county; Benj, H. was lately elected sheriff; Chas. L. is a graduate of the New York and Atlanta medi cal colleges, and is practicing medi cine at Seale’s Station, Ala.; the two last are farming in this county. Bri tain has lately returned from Brazil, where he spent three years. Now,.if old Harris, ‘or any other man,” can show six as healthy, good looking, hospitable, high-minded and clever a band of hi othets, generally, as the above are, it will surprise ns. May prosperity attend them always. IT. W. Pitts & Co,—-This firm suc ceeds the old one of Cowsert A Pilts. The new firm evidently mean busi ness. They start out (as all new firms should do, aiid old ones to*) by jut ting an attractive advertisement in their home paper They arc going to occupy two store rooms, and have such a stock as has not been in this place for years, They offer to sell to you as cheap for cash or on time as you can buy in Columbus or West Point. . The firm is composed of reli able, accommodating gentlemen, who have invested their capital in this .business, and solicit your patronage. Let them have it. Ai.l Light Now.—Passengers be tween Hamilton and the railroad ter minus will no longer be troubled in regai-d to the mode of conveyance. Our clever postmaster, Mr, Joel TANARUS, Johnson, is now running a double seated buggy daily between the two. points, and can carry ail passengers. P, S, —We don’t see bow Mr. J can now any longer get round giving us a free ride. A citizen-of this county, a few days ago, called at one of our grocery Slorco v— j— ,———rmal. SUld. was told by the merchant that, owing to the burning of a bridge on the State Road, lie did not know when lus meat would get here. To which the aforesaid citizen, who is a stut terer, replied: “Th-ththat pi plays th-t.he d-d—l wi-with a fel-fel-fellow’s b-b-belly! ’?. Df.au.—Mr. T. N, Johnson, one of our oldest and best citizens, died at liis residence in this place, on last Wednesday, the 12th, of congestion of the lungs, Mr, Johnson had been in bad health for some time. He has left a sister, a widowed mother, and a wife and child to mourn his loss. He was buried here yesterday. The “ patent-outside ” men are continually sending us specimens of their ready-printed*shcets, with a view of securing our patronage. If they only knew our opinion of their system, they would not trouble them selves to send us another paper soon. £3?“ To-day is devoted to St. Val entine; but if our lovesick swains de pended on getting their Valentines here, we fear they would be disap pointed. as we have heard of none in town for sale. Change of Schedule. —The train on tfoe North and South Road now leaves Columbus at E:50 —a few min utes later than formerly. The time of leaving the terminus is unchanged. OP We iearn that the North and South Ttoad is now carrying a con siderable amount of cotton to Colum bus from the counties of Troup and JMk-riw other, SeSC Two dollars w ill pay for the Yisn.oa.pnc whole year. Attend to This. —We started this paper to .make a living, at least, if no more. This we wiil be unable to do, if we take subscribers on a credit. Several mimes have got on our mail book by the promise of payiiig in a week or two. Much as we would like to have our paper visit every family in the county, we cannot let it go on a credit. So if any one who neglects to pay up within the next week or two, should fail to receive the paper, he can guess the reason; Eggs, chiekens, butter, wood, etc., will be taken in pay for subscriptions. Here’s a Chance! —Any one send ing or bringing us the names of six subscribers and sl2, will receive as a premium a copy of The Great Indus tries of the United States—a new work, written by twenty eminent au thors, and containing 1300 pages and 500 engravings: It treats upon all branches of industry, is a complete encyclopedia of arts and manufac tures, and sells at $3 60. You can obtain six cash subscribers in a little time, and secure a valuable book for nothing. ESP Our subscription list is stead ily increasing. If each of our present subscribers would prevail upon one of his friends or neighbors to take the paper, our list would soon double itself. Let them make the effort, and not stop at one, but keep on. There is plenty of room on our mail book for the name of every man in Harris county. So have no fear of crowding us —but let the .money accompany the names. A Fair Offer.— lf there is any one in Harris county who desires to take the Visitor, but is unable to pay for it, and he will convince us of the fact, wo will send him the paper free of charge- We are determined you shall have no excuse for not tak ing your local paper, if in our power to prevent it. CbniMßi-s District Quarterly Conference. The first Quarterly Conference tor the Hamilton Circuit will be held at Hamilton on the 15th and 16th of March. All the official members are kindly requested to arrange to be present. Tiios. TANARUS, Christian, P, E. jggy Remember, farmers, that you can pay yo.ur subscription to your county paper in butter,-'chickens, etc. Other papers require the cash. Who so poor but that lie can take bis home paper? If you have not the money, you surely can pay in wood or provisions. CSV What gives all the home news and official advertising, which cannot be found elsewhere? The county paper. LOOK HERE! DO YOU WANT A GOOD WATCH CHEAP? We will give a good English lever, silver, lmming-case watch, with a handsome chain, valued at $45, to any one furnishing us 100 ycaily sub scribers and S2OO in cash.
