Services at the Methodist Church on the fourth Sunday, and Saturday before the 4th Sunday, in jeach mouth. Eev. D. B- Me Williams, pastor. Sunday-school at 9A. M. Tn* Cabii St.-tem.—As we have to pay the cash for everything we use about our house and office, we are compelled to do a itiietty cash business. We will take wood or pro visions. at market prices, in pay for sub scriptions. Although anxious for patronage, we prefer a limited cash business to an ex tended credit one. The La Grange-Gap Road. The importance of having a good dirt road at the above gap to Hamil ton, induced the citizens of the to\yn, and those interested, to make some effort to grade anew road on the South side of mountain, putting it on a grade averaging one foot in every sixteen. Mr. J. T. Johnson, with a few hands, at an expense of fifty dollars, raised by private contri butions, graded about 180 feet, the past year, and now says the whole grade can be completed at a further cost of $250, the distance of about 450 feet —thereby securing to the country and public a most excellent crossing at said gap. He is siill will ing to superintend the work, free of charge, „if the neoessary sum can be raised*to complete it, either in money or labor. We suggest to the citizens of Ham ilton, especially the business men, and those interested North of the movmtaitt, to take this enterprise in hand, and, during the summer, com plete the grading, and open the new road. We are advised that the corporate authorities of Hamilton will pay fifty dollars towards the project. Those who cannot pay in money, can work, and by all doing all they can, the road can be built with but little ex pense to any one. We are identified with Hamilton, arid Harris county, and fuel a deep interest in the prosperity of both, and we are willing to lend our aid to build up the interests of the town and county. Harris is old enough to have good public roads, and, as a general tiring, she has. Public roads well worked, and good bridges across the streams, are an index to the civilization and intelligence of the citizens of the county. Prepare for Business. ■lutibout two months the North & South Railroad will be completed to Hamilton, and it behooves all good citizens of the town to make all nec essary preparations for the inception of the locomotive , by working and grading effectually all the roads com ing into the place, in order to induce, ■encourage and draw trade to the town—hew down the mountain pass es, and make rough places smooth; paint up the old houses, put on cheer ful looks, and extend a hearty wel come to coming prosperity. In other words, let us place ourselves in a po sition to make money and claim res pectability as an intelligent people. Fine Clover.— lt lias been said that clover cannot be raised success fully in this latitude. Nothing will more effectually controvert .this the ory than the sight of a patch in tliis town, adjoining the law office of Col. Jas. M. Mobley. It is the common •red variety, and was sown a year ago last September. It is at least two feet high, and is of luxuriant growth. It can be cut off three times a year. Since looking at Co:l. M.’s clover, we have been informed that Mr. R. 12. Fort, a young and energetic far mer of this county, grows clover suc cessfully, and that ho now has it wcist high. T. .Johnson, County School Commissioner, it will be seen that a meeting of the Board of Education is to be held here on the'Tlh proximo; and we do hope that the people of (Harris will show their interest in this :iiud|pr by assembling here in force on the day mentioned. I-Ie has been dangerously ill Tfor the past two or flirec weeks, and is still quite low. Wc hope soou to ' sec him out again. Improvements. —A neat dwelling has lately Ijeeii put up by Mr. Henry Kimbrough, and is occupied by Dr. Jenkins. “Uncle’’ John Turner is ereetinsr a two-story house lor a hotel. Mr. Joel Johnson has a building going up, to be used as a post-office. The dwelling of the Messrs. Mur pliey is nearly completed. It looks well, and is conveniently arranged. Weather and Crops. —We had gentle showers last Tuesday, and an other hard rain that night. The rain of last week is reported as the heaviest known here in twenty years. It is estimated that at least one-half of the guano used has been washed away. Within the past few days cotton has taken a fresh start, and the crop now looks pretty well. The two Sabbath-schools of IlamiltQn are expected to unite in a picnic or celebration just as scon as the measles will permit them. At present, many of the children are sick. No Train. —Owing to some neces sary repaii s on the engine, no train left for Columbus yesterday morning; nor will there be any to-morrow (Sat urday), or next Tuesday, tbe 13th. - For Sale.— A set of tinner’s tools, complete, in good order, and low for cash. IMPORTANT TO PLANTERS, SOLUBLE PACIFIC GUANO. ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 1873. Wv C. JOHNSTON, Agent at King , 3boro JIARMIS co.—terminus north* south railroad. This justly celebrated Fertilizer, which has had such an extensive sale in this section during the past few years, mid which has given universal satis faction wherever properly applied, is again offered to tbe planters of Harris and adjacent counties upon the most liberal terms, as it is the established policy of the 1 aeiho Guano Company to furnish its Guano at the lowest cost to consumers, mid look to small jrroii/s and large sales for compensation to capital invested in its production. In view of this policy, and t'm reduced cost of production, the Soluble Pacific Guano is put into market ibis season at the low price of $5(5 per ton. cash, and freight from Columbus to Kings boro (§1.50) ai.ded. Also for sale on time for currency or for cotton. J here is no fertilizer offered in this market, having a recorded experience in its use, which can compare with this article. That fertilizer which has stood the test ot time, and has an established character acquired by long experience, must present claims to continued confidence which, cannot per tain to articles which havo not been subjected to the same ordeal of long tried use. This guano lias been sold in this market since 1865. Its con sumption lias sleadily increased throughout the country, from a few han dled tons the first year t its use, to many thousands of tons annually, which is the highest attestation of its superior excellence. A WdWBH!) ©IF ©AOTWh Tile great popularity of tile well-known Soluble Pacific Guano, mttnwfuo tured by the Pacific, Guano Company, Messrs. John S. Reuse it Cos., Balti more, General Agents, and Mr. W. H. Young, of Columbus, Special Agent for this section, lias led unprincipled parties to endeavor to introduce mi infeiior article, under a somewhat similar name, and to try to induce plant ers to buy their compound, on the assurance that it is the same as the gen uine _ Soluble Pacific Guano. Mr. Young wishes to correct, through the public press, any Btich impression which may lmve been ontertaiued, by .in forming his friends and customers that no responsibility attaches to any .compound sold under such assurance —hence the necessity arises to caution planters to buy only from the authorized agents of the genuine Pacifio Guano Company, The real Soluble Pacific Guano is branded with the namo ot John S. lleeso & Cos., General Agents, Baltimore, and is put up in sacks warranted to contain two hundred pounds each.
