Hints to Farmers. Ewly in the spring go over the pastnfes and meadows and scatter - tke dropping of horses and cattle : the value of the manure is increased three-fold thereby. Profit in beeping slock, comes from the food digested anl assimil ated in excess of what is required to snjpport vitality, and the more we oao get a single animal to digest and •uimiUte, and therefore convert iato the desert product, the greater profit • V., A Boston professor claims to have found that's drink of ice-cold water taken by cow, or drafts of cold air allowed to blow upon her when in the stable, cats short the yield of milk at least a quart a day, and that the effect extends for more than a ;* .A* correspondent says: “l believe the best fertiliser of any soil is a spirit of industry, enterprise and infcelli geoee, and without these no man can who is not RB*rt enough to enter the ooatmeri-ial world, is not smart enough W run li farm.’* We should guess the writer had not traveled tnuoh, while every one knows that all farmer! should be educated and >flbftibjMli . Husbandmen should bear in mind Ut e fact (bat, while sadden wealth is rarely acquired in farming, neither w 'll great /or sadden losses be met with. ‘ ' s How to Measure Land. An lowa farmer recommends the following device for measuring land, Take two slate about six feet long, sharpen one end of each, lay them upon a floor like a pair of open com passes, so that the points shall be five feet aix inches apart; now nail the stWfwoidndf together and a piece MroMthe middle, so that it will look like the letter A, end the measure is finished. To measure land place one p° h &{lV'€)% & ce and the other also on the ground in a straight Hue for deatination ; stand alongside the machine with one hand on top of it j take one atep forward, up up the point that is behind, swing it around (from you) on the other point and set it In the lino also. A person in this manner pap measure correctly as fast as he <san walk—three spaces makes a rod — walk straight without stop ping, count the spaces, divide these by three, and you have the rods. Fattening Cattle Quickly or Slowly There appearp up room far question ing the fact that an animal fattened ed quickly makes finer eating than an animal which has been fattened slow ly, or which has remained fat for some time.* The meat la such cases is sweeter and juoier, but whether it possesses any moro nutriment is not quite so olear. There are many oeople who have had the privilege of parta king of the fieah of prise animals, whieh had been maintained in high eondltion for a long time, and they did pot judge it as harshly as they would has* done had they purchased the tame “cut” from the nearest c r *!•*<* Aside from the matter of quality, there la a question of eoouomy which ip well worth eonsidering. An snitnal requires a certain amount of food daily to sustain life and snpply heat and waste of tisanes. It is only the eneeas of food pver these require ments of nature which goes to make fat or increase flesh. A great deal more food will be required to make one hundred pounds increase in the weight of an animal, if thirty days are takea for it, that if the feeding days* and'aß on. VECETABLE PI The startling drawback on nearly all me dicinal agents has ever been that in their process of purgation and purification they hare also debilitated tbe system. To obviate this difficulty physicians have long sought for an agent that would purge, purify and strengthen at one and the same time. Their research has at last been rewarded by a dis covery which fully realizes the fondest desires of the medical faculty, and which is justly regarded as the most important triumph that Pharmacy hag ever achieved. This import ant desideratum is Dr. Tutt’s Vegetable Liver Pills, which purify the blood and remove all corrupt humors and unhealthy accumulations from the body, and yet produce no weakness or lassitude whatever, but, on the contrary, tone the stomach and invigorate the body during the progress of their operation. They unite the heretofore irreconcilable qualities of a strengthening purgative and a purifying tonic. Dr. Tutt’s Pills are the most active and searching medicine in existence. They at once attack tbe very root of disease, and their action is so prompt, that in an hour or two after they are taken the patient is aware of their good effects. They may be taken at any time without.reetraint of diet or occupa tion; they produce neither nausea, griping or debility, and as a family medicine they have no rival. Prico 25 cents a box. Sold by all Druggist*. Principal office, 18 and 20 Platt street, New York. ISBI I--?/ AjLJLLi i i i 1] BLOOD PURIFIER l| is unequalled by any known remedy.
