Blue Spring Sunday-School.
Ed. Visitor —Please allow me a
small space in your valuable paper to
make my annual report of Blue Spring
Sunday-school.
It has been niy custom, for the last
four years, to attend the annual cele
bration of the Above-named Sunday
school—making my report more from
habit than otherwise, and to please
the children who cothpose this school,
I have the pleasure of reiterating
what I have often said before. This
school ffe a success—emphatically so—
and to the teachers and Superintend
ent is due the full meed of praise.
In this school no isms or sectarian
feelings are taught. This is a union
of hearts and work—all striving to
see who tan excel in teaching moral
ity, modesty, refinement of sentiment,
dignity of character, ’bve of the Sab
bath, and veneration for religion.
Here the ricli and the prror, the high
fund the low (if there be any), all meet
on one condition level; to pass a pleas
ant, sociable; friendly hoiir —leading
the younger ones by tendrils of love
to improve tile miiid, to love religion,
to love one another, and to become
good and useful men and women.
What more can be said ? This is
all true—no varnish, ho flattery.
To say the, celebration was a slio
bess does not tell it all. The speak
ing, singing, compositions and dinner
were good—could hardly have been
better, und'fir the 'Circumstances;
Agairi we say, success to, and
Heaven’s richest blessings upon, the
Blue Spring Sunday-school-, Superin
tendent and teachers!
Would that Hamilton could boast
bf such a school—sucli interest and
bnterpttse!
And now allow me, in conclusion,
to call Uie attention of Hamiltonians
and the vicinity to the fact, that next
Sunday afternoon, at 4 o’clock, there
will be a, meeting at the Male Acacß
cmy of all Who feel an interest in
Sunday-schools, and 'more particu
larly in establishing an independent
fSunday-sfthotd; flee from sectarian
Feelings, isms or dogmas of any kind,
but a unidn of hands and heart s.
Let all cotne; let tlotie Stay away;
but come determined to do your duty
—to feel an interest—to take an act
ive part —becOmC a working, ener
getic, and live member. Parents,
come and encourage your children.
Don’t stay away, and make j-bitr Con
sciences easy by saying, “ I Send my
children.’* Cbmb with them, and
teach them by example that it is a
pleasant thiiig id attend Sunday-
School.
Children, ijf ma and pa will hot
come with you, come alone, and We
Will meet you regularly every Sun
day, God willing, and help you to be
prepared tb tenact your part in the
future drama of life’s eventful scenes.
If you belong to other schools, it
does hot matter. Cotne and join the
Independents. We Will do you good,
hhd not evil, all the days of your life,
tome on and see. Biing all your
friends, tell them it is a good place
lo go to bn Sunday—a pleasant place
io spend an idle hour. Will you
'cotne? A Hamiltonian;
Pt'hi.tc mectiiig of
tne citizens bf Hamilton and vicinity
will be held at the Masonic Hall on
Saturday afteriiobn next; the Cth, at
five o’clock; to devise ways and means
for improving the appearance bf tlie
graveyard. Let all interested come
out—especially the ladies.
Many Citizens.
C®*' One of our young men shot
at what he fitlpposed to be a cata
mount, the other night. The shot
was effective; and on inspecting his
fame, he found he had murdered a
iiomfts cat!
dr The dullness of otir town was
relieved last week by the Sheriff, who
shot ai a fiegro who was trying to
escape arrest: The shot tuissfed, find
the negro is missing too.

Blue Spring Sunday-School.
secretary’s report.
Blue Spring Sunday-school was or
ganized in the spring of 1867, under
doubtful circumstances as to its suc
cess ; but its friends and the neigh
borhood went forward With commend
able zeal, nothing doubting—went
steadily forward, always punctual at
the times of meeting; the teachers
ever ready to greet the scholars with
encouraging words; and in a short
time they had the respect and confi
dence of the pupils, which soon ri
pened into love, and the leaven began
to spread; The school began to grow
in interest and numbers, to the as
tonishment of many; and the gratifi
cation of its friends. Thus closed
our first year.
Winter passed slowly-a Way, and
spring came, and with it the inquiry,
Shall we have a school this year?
We again launched our ship, threw
our banner t’o the breeze, and glided
peacefully along, stopping ever and
anon to take on precious living freight.
Our little band grew in numbers and
interest until it reached ninety, with
an average attendance of seventy
live.
Another year then passed as usual,
and another, without any remarkable
change as to numbers or attendance,
and our fifth year came and wefit,
and still they came, through sunshine
and rain, with no abatement of num
bers or interest, but additional tics
of love and attachment formed by
association.
This brings us to our sixth, the
present year, and to-day we ai e here
to greet you and bid you a hearty
welcome. What we have done is
manifest—here are our jewels.
We have never failed to meet and
go through the exercises pf the school
a single Sabbath evening during our
session, since our (existence. We
have much to be proud of. Surely
goodness and mercy hath followed
our school all the days of its life.
Frank Hadley, B S. S. S.
Improving.— We are glad to note
that Hamilton lias taken a slart up
wards. Mr. Gamble, of Columbus,
has rented the store of the Messrs.
Murphcy, and will soon open out his
new stock. Mr. Ragland is putting
up anew storehouse near the jail lot.
The dwelling of the Messrs. Murphey
has been completed, and is the neat
est looking and best finished house in
town.
G2F” In proof of the fact that phy
sicians need money as well as other
people, We heard one of our doctors
say, the other day, that he would
give a premium of ten per cent, to
the first man who settled his bill for
the present year with him.
Come, now ; don’t all pay at once.
A Bargain.— A due-bill on the
Wheeler & Wilson Sewing Machine
Cos, for S4O, can he bought for S3O
by the first one who applies at this

of this make.
Advertise.— Some persons think
an advertisement is never read— par*,
ticularly if it appears in a country
paper. And ye£ we received a letter
from Birmingham, Ala., the other
day, in reference tb the scholarship
we had advertised.
We leat'n that A large num
ber of persons attended the Sunday
school celebration at Bhie Spring on
Saturday. No opportunity offering
for us to ride out there, we are una
ble to state what was said or done.
