The Dry Earth Process in the
Poultry House.
Tlie dry earth process can bo ap
plied in a way peculiarly valuable to
iho former and gardener. In this
country, poultry aro kept by every
body who owns land, from a rood to
a run. But how few of us have an
idea of the value or the quantity of
manure that can be made from poul
try. I have a pile just now, as good
as guano, as I have every reason to
believe, that filled the dray three
times. I should say it weighs over
two tons; and all this has been gath
ered out of the fowl-house from some
50 fowls, 17 ducks, and 29 geese,
young and old, since August last.
It was made in this way: Five loads
of dry, good black soil were dumped
into an empty stall in the stable dur
ing last winter—in June, I believe.
This earth is used for various pur
poses about tho house—wherever it
is needed, that is the order. It very
naturally came into use in tho fowl
house, to keep down the ammonia
that can be smelled at some distance
during wet weather.
Next it was found that it was eas
ier to spread a few shovels of earth
over the floor of a morning than
scrape up the place, as we had been
doing all these years. The idea that
we were making a very rich com
post —something very like guano—
followed sometime after" the earth
spreading commenced. Then we laid
on the earth as thick as it was neces
sary to keep the place perfectly dry.
The change is something to bo sur
prised at, and it pleases everybody
concerned with tho poultry. Fully
one-half of the dry earth has been
absorbed there, and in turn it has
Absorbed everything it came in con
tact with. The mixturo has no smell
whatever and after being broken
and chopped with the spade is a
greyish powder. As I have said, the
heap is over two tons, and is suffi
cient, if I am any judge, to manuro
an aero of wheat, barley, or oats.—
Morgan, in Queenslander, (Aus
tralia.)
Dybpupsia Remedy.—The follow
ing remedy for dyspepsia is said to
bo very effective in some cases:
“Sweet cream or sweet milk, the
richer tho better; use ns often as
convenient. Whenever any burning
or sour sensation at the stomach ap
pears, drink half a pint of sweet
cream or milk, and relief is evident.
Uso it freely at meals. Total absti
nence from the use of tobacco, coffee,
strong drink, or anything very sour,
must be strictly adhered to. Coffee
being tho worst of nil things for dys
pcptics, must be entirely avoided.”
A City Garden Potato Yield.—
We mo indebted to B. 11. Wrigley,
Secretary, for the appended certifi
cate of an Irish potato yield exhibited
at tho late Bibb county Fair:
One pound of extra early Vermont
potatoes used.
The within described potatoes were
planted in dark soil trenched two
feet deep; filled in one foot with
Rtable manure, with a hamlfull of
hogs’ hair scattered in each hill;
planted in soil on top of the mauure,
then filled in six inches with rice
hulls. Seed were planted 10th March
and dug 10th of June. The ground
was not dug after planting.
[Signed] W. B. Johnson.
From the above method of plant
ing the gardener, Johnson, got eighty
one pounds potatoes from one hun
dred and seventeen feet of ground,
being an average of five hundred
and four bushels to tho acre. —Macon
Star.
car At a sale of thoroughbred
cattle in Lexington, Ky., eighty-four
animals were sold, bringing over
$51,000, an average of about $933
per head. The highest animals were
co wb— Lady Bates, $2,150; Minna,
$1,005; Geneva Gwynne, $1,015;
and London Dutchess, $1,940.
A Grange Mill.— The grange
mill at Waterford, Minn., has proved
an undoubted success. Since the
28th of January last it has exchanged
with the farmers 12,000 bushels of
wheat, equal to 887,500 pounds of
flour. It is now turning out 140
barrels of flour daily, which is shipped
direct to this city, and commands a
ready sale—receiving from 1,000 to
2,000 bushels of wheat a day, at $1.04
a bushel, and exchanging 150 to 200
bushels, equal to SO or 40 barrels of
flour, the exchange paying tho run
ning expenses.
f Ringworm —Tho application of
the pure, fresh citrine ointment (uug.
<lydr. uit.) seldom fails to cure this
disease. Apply it twice a day, and
keep the part dean.
A glue which will resist the
action of water is made by boiling
one pound of glue in two quarts of
skimmed milk.

out our entire country during tho
Summer and Autumn, and remarka
bly so during seasons of unusual
beat and dryness, are invariably ac
companied by extensive derange-
ments of the stomach and liver, and
other abdominal viscera. In their
treatment, a purgative, exerting a
powerful influence upon those vari
ous organs, is essentially necessary.
There is no cathartic for the purpose
equal to Dn. J. Walker's Vinegar
Bitters, as they will speedily remove
tho dark-colored viscid matter with which
the bowels aro loaded, at the same time
stimulating tho secretions of tho liver,
aud generally restoring the healthy func
tions of the digestive organs.
Fortify the body against dis
ease by purifying all its fluids with
Vinegar Bitters. No 'epidemic can
take hold of a system thus fore-armed.

Tightness of tho Chest, Dizziness, Sour
Eructations of tho Stomach, Bad Taste
in tho Mouth, Bilious Attacks, Palpita
tion of the Heart, Inflammation of the

ativo powers in tho most obstinate and
intractable cases.
For Inflammatory and Chronic
Rheumatism, Gout, Bilious, Remit

of the Blood, Liver, Kidneys aud Bladder,
these Bitters have no equal. Such Dis
eases aro caused by Vitiated Blood.
Mechanical Diseases.—Persons

For Female Complaints, in young

that improvement is perceptible.
Cleanse the Vitiated Blood
