store of Dr. A. It. Taylor, Hawkins
ville, Go.
John llknky Si Co. —This enter
prising firm was the first to lay in a
new Btoek, and is now first in making
known the fact through our columns,
as will be seen by referring to their
large and attractive advertisement in
this issue.
The fact is, this house has never
been without a stock of goods since
its establishment, and, consequently,
has never lacked customers. They
have now, however, made large addi
tions, in order to be prepared for the
iieavj} trade which they anticipate re
ceiving the coming fall and winter.
One must take a look through their
atore, as we did a day or two ago, be
fore being able to form a correct esti
mate of the nature and extent of f’eir
stock. Shelves, drawers and boxes,
counters and floor, qre all filled with
goods, packed and unpacked—goods
for whites and blacks; for rich and
poor; for old and young; for males
and females—fine goods and coarse
goods.
We noticed there a hogshead of
sugar, the first wc remember to have
seen in liawkinsville, and crockery
shipped direct from Europe without
breaking bulk.
We advise our renders to give this
-store a call.

1)., requests all brothers and sisters
who expect to attend the session of
the Grand Lodge of the Independent
i)rder of Good Templars, which meets
in Amcricus, on the sth of October
next, to report their names to him at
their earliest convenience, so that the
necessary arrangements may be made
for their accommodation.
Eureka never fails to core.
Looking Up. — The trade of Ilawk
insville is looking tip. New cotton is
■coming in, ami our merchants are
busily engaged in receiving and open
ing their fall and winter stocks. Lest
they might be unaware of the fact, wc
would say that we have ample room
Tor them to “ spread themselves ” in
our advertising columns.
m- Eureka is no humbug.
Ciianoe o* Schedule.— From a no
tice elsewhere, it will be seen that the
train now leaves this place at 1:45,
instead of 1 o’clock, in the morning,
and reaches Macon at 11:25, instead
of 10:30. If the running time between
hero and Macon could be reduced to
three hours, it would provo quite au
accommodation.
tsr Eureka cures falling fits.
Tin Shop. —We have been requested
to state that Mr v Westcott, of Fort
Valley, will be in liawkinsville, the
latter part of this week, for the pur
pose of opening a tin shop. A tinner
has been badly needed here, anil from
onr previous acquaintance with Mr.
W., we feel assured that he will give
satisfaction.
Unsettled.—The weather, for the
last few days, has been quite unset
tled ; the most of the time, cloudy,
cool and rainy, rendering comfortable
thicker clothing, and retarding cotton
picking.
Notary Public.—See card of Mr.
C. Hart announcing that he has been
appointed a Notary Public.
New Road.—The Ordinary has a
notice in this issue in reference to a
change of road.
New Cotton.—Ninety-six bales of
the new crop have been received at
liawkinsville up to this time.
