ant time next week. On Monday night.
Use 2(sth, they w ill have a Christmas tree at
the Court-house, to he followed by a sup
per. With Uie liberality of the order, they
1 have concluded to make the entertainment
a public one. All persons who are not
members, will be entitled to participate in
the supper, by contributions of provisions
or money; and nil who place gifts on the
tree, will be entitled to draw for tlio same.
Ladies are requested to famish articles
suitable for gentlemen, mid gentlemen some
thing suitable for the ladies. From what
wc know of the parlies having the matter
in hand, wc can promise a most pleasant
time to all who attend.
Public Meeting,—At a meeting ltcld
at the Court-house, last Friday afternoon,
C. M. Bozeman, Esq., was called to the
Chair, and Col. A. C. Pale appointed
Secretary. The following resolution was
adopted:
On behalf of the citizens of our town and
county, we return our thanks to Urevet
Lt. Col. J 8. Fletcher, Cant. Comdg. Cos.
E, lltth U. 8. lust., for his coiutcsy and
valuable aaaistonce rendered during the late
election. And we but express the general
opinion, iu thus returning to him, and,
through him, to Ids entire command, this
expression of high regard and confidence.
After adopting resolutions of thanks t<>
the brass band, the telegraph operator,
and the editor of lltc Hawkinsviilc I)is
p.vrcn, for assistance rendered at the late
election, the meeting adjourned.
Removed.—Rev. F. A. Branch, who lias
Ailed the Methodist pulpit iu Ilawkinsvillc
so nceeptably.the past year, lias been, by
the action of the Conference, removed to
Talkolton. lie will preach here for the

Rev. C. A. Fulwood, wlio comes here, is
no less an efficient pulpit orator than a
Christian gentleman, and we commend
him, in advance, to the hospitalities of our
people.
Longs'reet has been attached to llawii-
Insvillc station. Pulaski and Wilcox mis
sion will be served by Rev. J. Spence, and
Cochran mission by Rev. 11. C. Fentress.
The Snow.—About the time the polls
closed, oa Thursday afternoon, it com
menced snowing, and continued until after
nino o’clock. We found it some three
inches deep by measurement next morning.
The thought struck us, that this was a
fitting close to the election; that Dame
Nature, knowing that the conflict just over
had been a struggle of white against black
had sent tills fall of snmv as a token thaj
white was the winning color. How true
was our surmise will lie seen by tiie elec
tion returns published in another plane.

Democrats of the new county of Dodge !

to the profession—many of the performers i
being unapproachable *in their peculiar

The Examination.—On account of the
inclemency of the weather, the attendance
at the Academy, last week, was not large,
but we learn that the exercises were highly
satisfactory, and that the proficiency dis
jphnol by the pupils under Cupt. Martin's

ciency as a teacher.
C. R. Coset & Co.—This is the name cf
a t.cw firm just started business in Hawk
