TION, Montgomery, Alabama.
QF* Read wliat the Montgomery city
papers, that know the gentlemen, who ate
the managers and incor|>orators of this As
sociation, nave to say as to their reliability
and honesty :
[From the Daily Alabama State Journal .]
The “ Alabama Immigrant Association,”
chartered under the laws of the State of
Alabama, are making preparations to open
a large office, not only in New York, but
also in our city. They propose to give a
series of Splendid Entertainments, the flsrt
of which will take place In our city on De
cember 31st proximo, at which time they
will give away One Hundred Thousand
Dollars in greenbacks to holders of tickets
to said entertainnent. The American peo
ple are strictly a people of fortune; they
tike to take a ehanee at a big fortune for a
small sura of money. This scheme affords
them this opportunity. Tlx- first award
and the highest is $23,000. The lowest is
ten dollars. The price of tickets is ouly
two dollars. When was such nn oppor
tunity presented to make a “ pile” on such
a small investment? The Incorporators of
the Association are Julicn Romans nnd
Otto Scherf, Jr., of New York, and J. G.
Stokes and R. Greene of Montgomery.
For the benefit-of the public we will state
that the Association is perfectly solvent
—the gentleman who* compost it are ot
character and integrity, and we believe
they will see to it that the project is hon
estly and faiUiftilly carried out
[JVwn the Montgomery Daily Mail.]
“Iu these days of fortune making and
fortune-hunting, there seems to be a per
fect mania among all classes of our people
to invest in anything that promises a “ big
thing.” Wo are led to these remarks by
noticing the formation, under the statutes
of our State, of an Association for the pro
motion of Europeau immigration into the
Southern Butes. The incorporators are
two well known wealthy New Yorkers,
Messrs. Otto Scherf, junior, and Julicn
Homans, and Messrs. J. G. Stokes and R
Greene, of Alabama. These gentlemen
will faithftilly carry out the designs of the
Association, which proposes to give a set ies
of magnifleeut entertainments, at the first
of which oue hundred thousand dollars in
currency will be given sway to'holders of
tickete/m sums ranging from $lO to $35,-
000. The Company will open their Mont
gomery office at once.
