The Heath anti Burial of
KadicaiUnt.
It is not a mournful duty for ua to record
ilia death and burial of that old and con
temptible humbug " Radicalism,’’ which
departed this life in our county after a lin
gering illness of three days, commencing
on the 20th aud finally “kicking the bucket"
on the 22d of December. The deceased
ettnic to his death at tbe hands of his foes—
Honesty and Integrity—known as the
Democracy. The i>oor old fellow had
many friends, among whom were Grant,
Bullock, Akmnau, Bloster Fudget, and
other- Ho was born soon after the close
of the late war, and took up his residence
In Pulaski connty, where lie had lived un
til death laid him low. Or. tlte first day of
bis illness Up iw&sessed all the vigor of bis
youtlihood, but a change bad been wrought
in Die tuinds of the people, and to save
tbeir sulvrtance from spoliation and the
fair name of the State from disgrace, they
collected all their forces and made a gal
lant assault upon the fortress of Radicalism,
ami after a three-days com Hat their enemy
succumbed. Preparations were commenced
for the funeral, but the extreme cold weath
er prevented a large attendance, and it was
therefore postponed till last Tuesday about
mum. At that hour a most imposing pro
cession follow**} a one-borsc dray to tbe
corporate limits. Upon the dray was a
large black coffiu, at the foot of which was
suspended a carpet bag, tbe last relic of
the departed sinner. Old Logan, a tnulc
of gi untie proportions, pulled the dray,
llis step was firm and proud. He seemed
to rejoice with the people. Pen cannot
portray the scene nor give vent to the feel
in"!! of flic populace on this solemn and
never to-ba-forgotten occasion. No tears
were shed over the grave, but memories of
the past llllted through the minds of all,
umi i-ausad deep emotional feelings. The
funeral dirge was sung in pathetic glory,
something after the following style:
We lntry you deep,
And we bury you low,
Where- you can sleep
And never snore.
May we never sis- nor know yonr like again,
Anil may all attempts to nsutrect you bo
in vain.
Sleep on, sb-ep on. thy work is done.
Farewell, farewell, you an: dead and gone.
The deceased was preceded to his grave
by a band of music, and upon each side of
the dray walked the sable pall bearers,
Ixering banners with suitable Inscriptions.
Tile funeral cortege was grand and imposing.
Nofliiug like It hat ever bean witnessed in
this latitude. After the dirge was sung
the populace disappeared, aud sought their
various avocations, hoping and bcliuving
tint the di ath of Radicalism is eternal in
this county. So mote it Is-.
