HAWKINSVILLE DISPATCH.
VOL. IX.
THE DISPATCH
... ,
THURSDAY, JULY 8, 1875.
GEO. P. WOODS.
EDITOR AND PROPRIETOR.
Tlio Fourth of July.
The editor and the printers of the
Dispatch are this week enjoying the
Fourth of July, as announced in last
issue. Next week the Dispatch will
greet its many readers with a full
supply of entertaining reading mat
ter and the latest news. This half
sheet is merely sent out to give pub
licity to certain legal advertise
ments. ®
Moved.
Mr. A. A. Lowe has moved across
the street in one of the Leith build
ings where his old friends and custo
mers will find him as fat, jovial and
ready to sell cheap goods a^Jever.
To convince yourselt, kind reader,
that our clever drugs men, John Fale
& Cos., are selling cheap, just take
your oil cau to their store and they
will fill it with kerosene oil at 30
cents a gallon.
How They Missed it,
An interesting little story is told
on some of the Hawkinsville excur
sionists who visited Macon on Sun
day and Monday last. It seems that
most of the young men “heeled”
themselves with too much of the shin
plaster currency—better known
among the excursionists as the Hawk
insville money—and tried to /pay
lodging with it, but was refused on
the grounds that, “I can’t pay board
with that.” It is said that one of
the young men, “who had not been
there before,” hid himself behind a
door, and tried to give vent to his
feelings by exclaiming : “Vay didn’t
I know vetter dan to vring dis stuff
to Macon.”
No Holiday lor Them.
0, no, there isn’t any holiday for
•Ino. Fale& Cos., —if nearly all are en
joying the Fourth of July—for if they
were to close up, how could you en
joy your holiday ? because they have
to keep open in order that the thirs
ty may get the cooling Soda Water
these hot summer days. If you
think you need something for the
inner man, just drop in at Jno. Fale
& Go’s and wrapp yourself around
one or two glasses of the Iceland So
da Water, and our word for it, you
will feel like anew person, probably
better than you ever felt before.
Don’t take our word for it, but con
vince yourself by calling to see.
Remember, Jno. Fale & Go’s drug
store is the place to find it.
A Kicking Gun.
The “kickingcst” gun we ever
heard of is in Early county. The
Blakely News says Mr. U. J. Bush,
of that dbunty, while out squirrel
hunting recently discharged his gun,
and so great was the rebound “that it
broke his arm; the ramrod flew out
of the thimbles, going to the dis
tance of some forty ys rds, and the
gun passed backwards, and reversing
ends, the muzzle went some six
inches into the ground.”
The Civil Rights bill is kicked
from court to court and cuffed from
State to State. The last blow has
been dealt by the District Court of
Texas. A prosecution was com
menced in Galveston against the
manager of the Opera House, and
the United States Judge ordered the
indictment tjuashed on the ground
that the act was unconstitutional.
11. I. Kimball, as we all know, was
one of the greatest benefactors Geor
gia ever had, but that is no reason
why he should write to a Kansas pa
per—as he did recently—that Gov.
Smith’s “Democratic administration
repudiated all State bonds and secu
rities issued by the previous adminis
tration in aid of public enterprises.”
That is cutting it rather fat, even for
a “benefactor.” We thought it was
only the fraudulent bonds and secu
rities that had been repudiated—as
they justly deserved. —Macon Tele
graph.
“It may'at least be said of Gener
al Butler,” says the Rochester Dem
ocrat, “that he retires from public
life a poor man—he is worth only
$2,000,000, and we don’t believe that
belongs to him.” Yes it does be
long to him. When he gets lps hand
on other people’s money it belongs
to him just as much as if he had
earned every cent of it by mauling
rails at a dollar a day.— Courier-
Journal.
For One Dollar.
The llAtvitiNsyiLLE Dispatch will
be sent and the postage paid the bal
ance of 1875 for ONE DOLLAR, in
order to give subscribers an opportu
nity to begin with the first of a new
y ear. tf

Mare Taken Up.
A black or dark bay mare, about five
years old, was taken up some time ago by
a freedman named Lige Williams, living
on Dr. Clark's plantation, near Hawkins
ville. Said mare has a sink in the left
side on the neck, left bind foot white,
heavy foretop, and a little weak-eyed.
She came to the place during the night.
Where she came from or whose property
she is no one knows.
