HAWKINSVILLE. GA.. THURSDAY MORNTNG. DECEMBER 27, 1877.
Otlr Christinas.
Here is the result of our Christ
mas—a half a sheet of advertise
ments, legal and otherwise. The
law requires sheriffs and ordinaries
to publish their notices weekly for
thirty days, and this fraction of a
newspaper is merely printed to fulfill
the requirements of the law. But
for this legal exaction, we would not
even issue a half sheet.
The Dispatch will appear full size
next week, and for 1877 will afford a
vast amount of interesting reading.
Our circulation is now larger than
any country weekly paper in the
State.
A Splendid Success.
The exhibition of Prof. Sanders’
school at Jelks’ Hall on the night of
the 19th inst., was one of the grand
est successes of the kind ever wit
nessed in our town. A more ex
tended notice will appear in next
week’s Dispatch.
Personal.
Mr. Hicks, of Crawford county,
was in town last Monday, and was
introduced around by his friend
Pope Watson. Mr. Hicks purchased
from one of our largest merchants a
large bill of goods at prices entirely
satisfactory to new visitors to our
town. We are glad to see our place
drawing trade from such a distance.
It augurs well for our future pros
perity. •
The Hawkinsville Minstrels.
The performance at Jelks’ Hall on
Thursday night last by the Hawkins
ville, Brass Band was one of the best
ever given in our towD, and a neat
little sum was realized for the bene
fit of the band. Joe Burrows and
Tom King—the two ‘‘end men”—are
almost equal to Ba rlo w or Primrose and
West. There was as much originali
ty in the jests and as much fun gen-,
erally as displayed by traveling
troupes. We shall have something
more to say of the exhibition next
week. Our people have always
shown a liberal spirit in supporting
and encouraging anything deserv
ing as the Band.
The Gentleman Hunting Wild Lands.
The gentleman with black whis
kers—the man from Savannah look
ing after wild lands—was sought for
this morning, but was nonest. Ju
lius Bagbv, ox-tax collector, and
sheriff D. W. Taylor and Judge
Henry Whitfield are satisfied that
there is something wrong in the law
for the collection of taxes upon wild
lands. We believe, also, that there
is a deficiency somewhere in the law
but whether it is the work of specu
lators or not we are unable to say.
A Gentlc*Hint.
In our style of climate, with its
sudden changes of temperature,—
rain, wind and sunshine often inter
mingled in a single day,—it is no
wonder that our children, friends
and relatives are so frequently taken
from us by neglected colds, half the
deaths resulting directly from this
cause. A bottle of Boschee’s Ger
man Syrup kept about your home
for immediate use will prevent seri
our sickness, a large doctor’s bill,
and perhaps death, by the use of
three or four doses. For curing
Coneumption, Hemorrhages, Pneu
monia, Severe Coughs, Croup or any
disease of the Throat or Lungs, its
success is simply wounderful, as
your druggist will tell you. G#-
man Syrup Is now sold in every
town and village on this continent.

lar size, 75c, dec2o-ct.

Is the most genial balsam ever used by
sufferers from pulmonary diseases.
It is composed of herbal products, which
have a specific effect on the throat and
lungs; detaches from the air cells all ir
ritating matter; causes it to be expecto
rated, and at once checks tho inflammation
which produces the cough. A single dose
relieves the most distressing paroxysm,
Joothes nervousness, and enables tho suf
erer to enjoy quiet rest at night. Being a
pleasant cordial, it tones the weak stom
ach, and is specially recommended fo*
children.
