Ocr Mails. —We, last week, re
lefrcd to the irregularity of our
mails, and are glad to learn that
fcthe Post-Office Department lias
Bt last so n proper to order all
Fmail matU'V Hit tiffs Post-Office
[delivered from the Air-Line Rail
road at Suwannee. This gives
three mails a week, Monday,
Wednesday and Friday to the
Air Line Railroad, and one mail a
week, on Wednesday', from Stone
Mountain
Plcfco.v llbxt.—A number of
young men of our village went
out one night last week to kill
pigeons at the roost near town.
None of them had much snecess,
except Mr. Cole, who succeeded
in wounding himself severely in
the arm.
The party had been shooting
for some time and failing to kill
any birds, Cole put in a heavy
charge in order to kill them all at
|once. He concluded to “make a
Vpoon or spile a horn,” the result
as, he “spilt the horn” —the gun
BlOrsted, and a piece struck him on
the arm, cutting it very severely
lie got a furlough.
Change or Name. —lt will be
seen that we, this week, drop the
Wbrmer name of our paper and
Hlhristen it the .Herald. We have
1 tended from our first connexion
luh the paper to change the name
JP|ot that we are superstitious
* |ut names, but simply because
wis could not fancy “Atlas” as
the name of a newspaper. It cov
ered more ground than we pro
posed to occupy in a country
weekly.
Ii is said that a ‘‘rose called by
any other name will smell as
sweet,'’ nevertheless; if left to
out choice, we would prefer to call
it a rose, than some names we
could suggest.
In taking “Atlas” down from
our masthead we intend no disre
spect to the mythological deity
for whom it was named, if he did
all the wonderful things related of
him by the ancients, he is certainly
entitled to the reaper t of mankind.
Still we must be allowed to say
that we do uot like his name. If
asked for a reason we will simply
reply in the language of au old
poet:
I do not like you, Dr. Fell,
\ The reason why I cannot tell;
Hut one thiug I kuow full well,
1 do slot like you, Dr. Fell!
A negro by the name of Milt
Bonds, was lodged in jail on the
6th instant, charged with attempt
ing to break into the house of Mr.
Cooper, for the purpose of com
ting a rape or burglary, it is not
known which. He had prised the
door open nearly wide enough to
effect an entrance, when he heard
Mr. Cooper coining, who had bien
to town that day, and run. He
was afterwards arrested, and car
ried before a committing court,
and in default of five hundred
do’lars bails was sent to jail. Let
ciim'nals look out —there- is no
loyal Bullock to pardon thorn now.

Kissing in the Dark -Pious reader,
did you ever—l desire not to be per
sonal—but did you ever kiss a gill in
a railroad tunnel! 1 never did, but il
the truth must be told, I’ve wanted
to awful bad. Not that 1 have any idea
that gobbling a chaste salute w.thin
the datk and narrow confines of a
tunnel renders a kiss mote delicious
than if stolen or takeu with full per
mission anywhere else; but il is the
novelty of the thing. It is the dark
ness; the rank burglary; the calcula
tion as to time: the sudden assault;
the desperate defence; the cute agony
ot the skirmish line of hair pins; the
carrying of the outer works; the fierce
struggle at the scrap; the glorious
sweetness of the surrender; and then
the condemnabie meanness afterward,
of the victory. Then hurried repairs,
and the impossible attempt to appear
placid and all serene before the other
passengers. I tell you there’s a short
lifetime passed in the kissing of a
girl in a tunnel.

Woman's Rights. —One who has
long studied this absorbing subject
now presehts to the women of our
country the result of his investiga
tions. He is happy to say that he
has at last discovered “ Woman’s Best
Friend.” It, is adapted especially, to
those cases where the womb is disor
dered, and will cure any irregularity
of the menses.” Dr. J. Bradfield’s Fe
male Regulator acts like a charm in
“whites,” or in a sudden check of the
‘monthlyfcourses’ from cold,trouble of

discharge in every instance. So also
in chronic cases its action is prompt
and decisive, and save the constitu
