From the Southern Cultivator.
Preparation of Soil, Plant

To insure a good crop of cotton, the
land you inland to plant, should ho
carefully solecled, thoroughly pre
pared and well cultivated. Kor cot
ton, Ttyi should choose a field as
elevated as posihlo, thoroughly drain

no water rises into the hole within
24 hours, that the land is well drainc 1
There are exceptions to this rule in a
very wet time The worst diseaso
that cotton is subject t* is rust. One
of the gioalest causes of rust is too
much water’ as it generally makes its
appearance in low damp places.—
After draining, comes preparation
for planting. Deep breaking and
suhsoiling, if posihlo, are both very
essential. Then couies manuring nnd
bedding. No one ought to plant
more old land than he or thor can

oaks in the woods-—about four load,

make the rows 4 feet apart, and plow
