FA ISM AND HOUSEHOLD.
Sword and inon^h-
FROM THE GERMAN OF WOLF&ANO MUMJCI.
There was once a Count—so I’ve heard
it said—
Who felt that his end drew near;
And he called his sons before his bed,
To part among them his goods and gear
lie called for his plough, lie called for Ids
sword,
That gallant good and brave;
They brought him both nt their father's
word,
And thus he his blessing gave:
*\\?y first-born son, my jvridc; %nd might,
I>o thou my sword retain;
My cattle on the lordly height,
And all my broad domain.’’
“On thee, my well-loved yonngcr boy,
My plotiuh I here bestow,
A peaceful life slialt thou enjoy,
In the quiet vale below."
Contented sank the s're to rest,
Now all was given away;
Tin* sons held true bis last behest,
E’en on their dying day
“Now tell us what came of the steel of
flame,
Of the castle and its knight!
And tell us what came of the vnlc so tame,
• And the humble pinsant wight?” •
O r asV wot »f me what the end may Ik-1
Ask of the country around;
The cattle are dust, the sword is rust,
The height is but desert ground.
But the vale spreads wide, in the golden
pride.
Of the autumn sunset glow;
It teems and ripens far and wide,
And the honor abides with the plough.

1. Fences. Cannot lhie burden

such labor as we have at present to
rely upon how many planters conhl
afford to replace every fence on his

calculations state that, on an average,
this is done every tun years. This
brings ns, then, to the consideration
of the remedies, viz:.

of vital interest, and every one posted
should give his experience, stilting

Establishments for uianfactnre of

I saw at work last spring a cotton
planter which surpasses any tiling

to a regular depth. The patentee,

Having lost a number of hogs

J Ult UB DBA,
It is not a Physic—lt is not what is
popularly called a Bitters, nor is it
intended as such. Is a South Amer
ican plant that has been used for many
years by the medical faculty of those
countries with wonderful efficacy, and
is a sure and perfect remedy for
all diseases of the liver and spleen,
enlargement or obstruction of intestines,
urinary, uterine, or abdominal organs,
poverty, or a want of blood, intermittent
or remittent fevers, inflammation bf the
liver, dropsy, sluggish circulation of the
blood, abscesses, tumors, jaundice, scrofula,
dyspepsia, ague and fever, or their con
comitants.
Dr. Well's Extract of Juntbeba is a
most perfect alterative, and is oflercd to
the public as a great invigorator and
remedy for all impurities of the blood, or
for organic weakness, with their attend
ant evils. For the foregoing complaints
Dr. Wells’ Extract of Jurubeba is confi
dently recommended to every family as a
household remedy, and should be freely
takers in all derangements of the system.
it is not a physic —it is not what is
popularly called a Bitters, nor is it in
tended as such ; but is simply a powerful
alterative, giving health, vigor and tone
to all the vital forces, and animates and
