I notice a gentleman from South
t’arnlina, recommends ns a cure
for Rattlesnake bites, the applica
tion of saltpeter to the wound. 1
wish to state, as an evidence of
the efficiency of saltpeter in the
cure of snake l iles, that one of
the most scientific and successful
physicians of our State adminis
ters saltpeter internally for the
cure of Rattlesnake lutes, giving
about thirty grains every half hour
until the patient is relieved. lie
assures me he never has known it
to fail to effect a cure. I have no
doubt the external application
will do as stated by your South
Carolina correspondent, if applied
soon enough ; but I think that
from obvious reasons, the "internal
remedy would be far more effica
cious. But both could be applied
at the same time. The physician
upon whose authority I have giv
en this statement, tells me he inis
cured snake bites with salt peter,
administered us above, that whis
ky (the usual remedy) did not
seem to effect in the least. I have
never seen a person bitten by a
Rattlesnake, but have seen dogs so
brtten and cured by forcing down
tkeui throats a large dose of salt
peter.— Cor. of the Plantation.

or remittent fevers, inflammation of the
liver, dropsy, sluggish circulation of the

Dr. Well's Extract of Juruheba is a

to all the vital forces, and animates and
fortifies all weak and lymphatic tempera
ments.
