The Superior Court wa< in Ses
sion, and business was being rapids
iy deposed of, notwithstanding the
inclemency of the weather. There
were but few members of the bar
Iroin adjoining counties in atten
dance upon the court. It is a little
remarkable what a change has
come over the practice of law in
this cifonit in a few years. Twenty
years ago, when the Judge started
upon his spring or fall riding a con
siderable number of the bar accom
panied him from couit to court.
VVe can well remember seeing the
bar (.-otne in on Sunday evening
First caine the judge, and then a
long iine of buggies, each generally
containing two lawyer*. In those
lavs we expected lo See Howell and
loin Oubb 4 Hither. Hull, l’eepies,
Overby, Hutchins, Simmons. Mc-
Millen, Underwood, Jiiuiman,
.Martin and Jackson, an array ol
legal talent and lurensio ability tin
.surpassed bv any bar in the State
‘There were giants'in those days.’
And the com! rooms in tins back
woods county echoed wiili an elo
quence that moved men to tears in
behalf of injured innocence, or
stilted up a storm of indigna
nation against sonic helpless wtelcb
who had been overtaken in crime.
But time* have changed. \A e do
not knew a single lawyer who trav
els around the oh cuit.
2’ne people of. Hull will l support

j VVe vve r e surmised to find a cm.
I siderable element tlieie opposed to
Atlanta. Why they sbould'go back’
oil their Own section, we have not
been able to understand If there is
any county in the State under more
obligation to Atlanta than another,
that county is Hall. But lot the lib
eral aid of that city in subscribing
$300,000 io the Air-Line Railroad,
the people of that county would be
Alii 1 dragging their productions
through the in ml to Athens or At'
lanta to find a market.
Gainesville now boasts of three
papers —the E.igle y Southron and
North Georgian, The latter is a
neini weekly, recently established by
Oul. Katas. We hope they ate all
p rospering.
We met that gal'ant chieftain,
Gen, Longstreet, who makes bis
summer residence here. Time has
left its marks upon him since the
war. He is giayer and not so
stout as he was when, as Lee’s
First Lieutenant, he led bis old
uoips to battle in that tertible
couplet to which we look back
even now with* a shudder. He
lias been under a cloud for several
years, perhaps unjustly so, for in
times ol great political excitement,
prejudice intis high and men fie
queutlv do not stop to reason; or
investigate the liulli of charges
preferred, perhaps from improper
motives.
Lie is still vigorous and active
and apparently in fine typhus,
lie says that lie is not a candi
date for U. S, Marshal, as lias
j been reported, but still claims his
