i school a success. The citizens
and teacher should work in uni
son—no teacher can build up an
mstituiou of learning without the
hearty co-operaion and support
of ibe people among whom he la.
Lore, and the people can do but
little without au active and enter
prising man at the head of their
s hool,
T' er® in no enterprise in our
midst that can do more for the
community than a tirsi class
school, It adds much ty the so
cial features of the town, for it
brings here y ung men and ladies
from the Best families of the sur
rounding country. It offers in •
ducements for parents who have
children to educate, to make this
their home, and brings a desira
ble populatou witu inouev and en
terprise to the town. It brings a
luge trade, for the schollars will
need board, clothing and books;
and it will keep at home the mon
ey ihat would otherwise be sent
off io educate our children.
Viewed from any stand point, i'
would seem that self interest, and
this is the lever teat moves tbs
world, would encourage our citi
zens to uuite in an effort to bripl
up au Educational Insiitute of
which our people will be proud.
And we know of no location in
this section of the state, not al
ready occupied, that offers snpe
rior inducements, Here we have
a good house, board can be obtain
ed cheap, society is good and we
are surrounded by a prosperous
county, thickly settled by a thrifty
population with very few educa
tional advantages We have bright
young met., who have a future be
fore them, and handsome sprighty
young ladies wLo can adorn socie
ty, if they are given the advantage
of a good education. But few of
the people in the surrounditg
country can hope io leave th
children fortunes but most o
them can. with educational fad i
ties at their door, place them up
on au equality with the world and
enable >hem to start the race of
life fully equipped to make success
ful in any avoctiou,
•rhere are enough children in
the town, if thrown together t>>
make a tine school and we think
it better to try to conso’olate
these schools than to have two or
three peices, The oppor l unity is
propitious now to establish a high
School here that will give such ad
vantages as for a number could on
ly be obtained elsewhere,
