We learn from the Tax Collector that there
are over one thousand taa a- faultcrs in this
county. Execution* are being i?au*d {against
all such, and it i- very lively that their goods
and chattel*, or other property, if any they
bare, will be advertised at Sheriffs Svle in the
News $ Farmer, if they do not hasten to pro
vide Bgaius- such hostile proceeding* and fork
over the ca*b.
We learn that the citizens in the upper por
tion of our county are making am« ve to ha e
a Post Office established in McDuffie county
rear the line of Jefferson and McDuffie, which
** ill add considerable to the convenience of their
mail arrangements, We favor the movement
*f»d wish our friends success in their endeavor*
to establish th« office.
The old customers and frie d* of Mr. T L
Brown will be gratified to know that he has re
snmed his old business in Louisville, and i*
now prepared to do all.kiuds ,- f work in his line
to order and at short notice. We welcome our
fi irod Thomas back to town, ana hope for him
a liberal patronage. Ke.nl his advertisment
in another column, and give him a call.
Wa notice the arrival of an animal (?) very
uncommon for this secrion—in Louisville; the
name mn*t -suggestive for it. on first, sight,
would be a high-laad heaver. One or two «>f
them made their appearance on the steets last
Sunday, and we learu that another one has
been imported, and the young mail has been
very uneasy because oi its non appear nice.
“EsoouraGiwo to tub Lapiks,”—Under thi«*
head in our advertising columns of to-days issue
will be found something not only encouraging
but interesting. Our young friend, Mr. Rog
ers does not want to get married yet, but he
wants all the wive* he can find to have one ol
his celebrated Wheeler <fc Wilson Sewing Ma"
chines, which he has now on exhbition at the
Store of Mess Wilkins & ffayles. They are of
the new, improved style, and are dasirabie for
their silent feed, simplicity and easiness of ao
tion.
We learn that our friead Col. J. G. Cain has
Veen given the credit cf furnishing ihe News
A- Farmer with the little statement in regard
to ihe result of the resent election for Kepresen
ftve. We would state lor the benefit of all
such, that the statement of the votes polled Wi»
obtained by us, from one of the clerks at the
election, and the lew remarks >r the subject
were suggested and wiium by u& 4|ir«.oui a ei
ther the advice or knowledge cfC* I t ain. In
Dr, J. N. O.ipliant, we would further
state —as we have been informed since the elec
tion —that his name was run by bis fiends
w ithout his Consent, and that he did not take
auy active part in electioneering until the mor
ning of the election. He was in favor of tin*
nomination, and would have supported it, but
for the determination ol his friends to run him
any how.
The regular February meeting of the Board of
Commissioners was rather more interesting amt
lively than usuai—having tinner consideration
a General Tax Ordinance for the year I £72
B*low we give a brief ot their proceedings :
All the tnembeJß of the Board were present—
Minuf.es of last meeting read£and confirmed.
Duly reierenceson these minutes were report of
Treasurer in regard to number of cords oi wood
cut and piled from the Cemetery, how much
•old, to whom sold, and how much on baud —
Treasurer being unable to a complete re
port, further time was granted—aud repot t of
Committee appointed to draft General Tax Or
dinance —this Comtribtee reported an Ordi*
nance as directed; and a Geueral Ordinance it
is and special too. as no species of property in
the town and no person engaged in any charac
ter of businesaasrapea, except dealer* in Liq
uors —the*>e were thought taxed sufficient:.?.
Wo whold like to give Ordinance entire as re
ported by Homnhitee, but. space will not allow.
This taken up by serious—
amended and discussed —re-amend-d a«d re
el i»aUßßed until quite a late b*ur. when the
Ordinance, except the tsixih and Ninth section*
v as laid on the table tor diseussioa and action
at a future meeting.
The Sixth and Ninth sections werepaesed and
ordered published. Complaint having be< u
made by some ihe Board in regard
to tbc use.ot Californiasiiug shots by some of
the boysintewa. *1 he Chairman appointed a
Committee to fi dra*tan Ordinance preventing the
u*e of the said California shots* This is quite a
simple woapon—consisting only of a forked
•tick and a robber baud; but in the hands ot
thoughtless boys a e very dangerous. California
•tings, so called, are forbidden in other towns
and of right should Le, for certainly, they are
an intolerable naisance.

SKATING,
By Chnrlt* A. Pilslnry.
On’polish«d ateel
The skaters wheel
O'er ponds so glossy bright,
Now here now there.
Like birds iu air,
Tbey wing tin ir rapid High'*
The cold winds blow,
Yet roses grow
On cheeks of skaters fair ;
And eyes shine bright
With rare delight,
Despite the nipping air.
And hearts glow, too,
Though some may me*
The day went to skate;
For on the ire,
Ail io a trice,
ThejM meet their cruel fate.
Some skater Belle,
Sweet demoiselle.
Mayhap will give the mitten
To luckless wight
Wiiu in her sight
Becomes so sorely smitten.
But some may find
Tlieir loves more kind.

And hearts keep time,

While bauds are clashed together.
