Mr. G. H. Harrell is geiting in

just beyond his present sh>*p.
Our young merchant friend Mr.
Charies A. Hayles who was on
Monday last suddenly attacked with
inftamaiinn of the brain, and has

illness and recover.
Obituary. —A sympathize ng
fiicud has deemed ii proper and ad
visable to erect an obituary of the
Louisville Branch Railroad, which
we publish in to-day’s paper. For
the want of proper appreciation of
the good that night have been ac
complised by this enterprise it has
been allowed in its incipieney to die
a death from which, we fear, it will
never revive, *nd has found its grave
between the banks of the Ogechee.
It seems that Louisville is, despite
the exertions of a few of her friends
and citizens, destined to be forever
kept a'o'd from anything like railroad
facilities.

accommodations and pro
visions were made for all who desir
es! to join in the pleasure of “tripping
the light fantastic,” and there were
not a dew who joined the merry
throng. The dancing commenced
about ten o’clock and continued un
til about one,.when dinner was an
nounced. Each and every gentle
man on the ground, who could, took
a lady to the table, which w s large
and heavy laden with the nicest and
best I arbecued and hashed m< at*
we have ever seen, bread of all kinds
in abundance, a quantum sufficit of
delicacies, and iced lemonade flowi
ng at the command of all. We do
not think we would be exaggerating
1 • saying that it was the best and
most completely prepared barbecued
dinner we have ever had the pleasure
of attending. The dinner commit
tee and superintendent of the cook
ing deserve much credit, and un
doubtedly did enjoy the. most pro
found thanks and congratulations of
all present. If Cob H. with his as
sistants, is as proficient and success
ful in superintending a Sunday
School, as he is a barbecup, we have
no fears but that the former, under
his charge will flourish.
After dinner was over the party
retired to the platform and the after
noon was spent with equal joy to
that of the morning We lake great
pleasure in returning oar especial
thanks to the managers of this affair
for th ir kind attentions shown us,
and assure them lhat we will evr
remember with pleasure lhat day
spent near Greenwood’s mill.
We poticed that cotton was open

some places the rust seems to be
taking a very deoided hold.
Obituary.
The subject of this notice, after a
painful and lingering existence of a
few months, departed this life on
the 20ih inst.
The deceased met her fate wi it
meek and Christian like fortitude.
Her 1 fe, though of short duration,
mad** many enemies and few friends.
The enemies overpowered the few
friends in the siruggle for further ex
istence; her deaih was caused by a
too limited administration of (nitrate
of) silver or some other drug equal
ly as powerful, in the shape of U. S.
currency, Rot procurable by her
frientlsin sufficient quantities to pro
long her life. Her friends fought val
iantly a->d labored strenuously to
save her, but alas! how weak is hu
man flesh. Her most liberal friend
coniiibuted 1,000 grains and sever
al others 300 each of the life pre
server, but all was in vain, death
was inevitable, it was bound locome.
Her enemies had slipped a counter
feit and poisonous drug in her cup
at the, beginning ol her existence,
the effects of which she never recov
ered. She died while in her infan
cy r brfo e arriving te the age of te
spons.b lity, therefore no sin of ex
tortion no schemes of monopoly, no
issue of'worthless scrip, no discount
oh stock &c.. are chargeable to her.
Her loss will be seriously felt by
many, but more particular by t)b fe
cifizens so Lou sville and vicinity,
where she was least known and con
sequently least cared for while in
life. Her friends met in solemn coun
cil nr. on ihe day of her
death, and passed resolutions to per
petuate her memory by leaving sev
er! blank pages on the minutes and
obliterating the subscription list ao
that the( rising generation might not
see who were ihe liberal contribu
tors to the Louisville Rail Road.
