LAWS RELATING TO NEWSPAPER
Subscriptions and Arrearages.
1. Subscribers'who do not eire express no
tier to the contrary, are considered'wishing to
continue their subscription.
S. If subscribers order the discontinuance of
their periodicals,the publishers may cordfouh
to send them Until 411 arrearages are paltf.
3. If snbeeribers neglect or refuse to take
their periodicals from the office to which they
are directed, they are held responsible until
they have settled their bills, and Ordered them
discontinued.
4. If subscribers move to other places with
out informing the publishers,'and the papers

5. Tire Courts have declared that “refusing
to take periodicals from the office, or removing

Sale of Land.
On Tuesday last the Sheriff sold two tracts
of land.—One belonging to J. TANARUS, Parker, con
taining nine hundred acres, more or le*s, was
knocked off at 93,500.00. and the other be
longing to Jaa. B. Agrensfit, containing two
hundred and eleven acres', more or less, was
sold for a little leas than one dollar per acre.

racks in the place. It might not be improper

It is refreshing to learn ot the growing pros
perity of the above named Institution located
in our midst. Years ago the Louisville Acad
emy was considered one of the best and most
flourishing Schools in this part of the State,
bat it has during the last four or five years

The tide has Row changed, and under the
management of Mr. Holcombe, the new
teacher, and his accomplished assistant, Mrs.
Goode, the school is rapidly regaining its once
enviable popularity. Mr. H. is. as we learn,
a thorough and moat competent tcachsr nrul
good disciplinarian, and has so far won the
high opinion and good will of his patrons.
His school now numbers about forty scholars,
both male and female, and we trqjt that b- -
-fore the year closes ho will have eqbalij ifnot
more than double that number. Npt only the
citizens of Louisville and Jefferson County
patronize the Institution but citizens of oth
er counties, some over forty miles from Louis

More Effects of Coal
’Gas. —At St. Patrick’s church, in
Cambridge, Washington county,
Nfrw York, on Sunday last, during
the services, several person, were
overcome by suffocation by coal
gas in the ehurch, and had to be car
