It seems to be geiting very popu

We understand from good ’authority
that Mr. Jeremiah"YJoyVard, wHo

is not satisfied with the result of the

Fatal Accident.
We regret very much to hear of

his sad death was in Burke at the
residence of bis mother. Mr. John
P. Smith his brother-in-law was
talking to him on the piaza. The
deceased was holding in his hand a
double barrel gun —me breech of the
gun resting on the floor near the
edge of the piaza. He was swinging
his right foot, lightly tapping his
gun, not noticing it was so near the
edge, when he knocked it oft' —the

Improvements.
We are pleased to note the spirit
oi improvement that is invading our
ittle City just at this time.
First in order is the new giisi mill
just completed by Messrs. F. A.
Sinquetield Sc T. F. Harlow, The
mill is now up and grinding and the
sound ot the whistle as it comes to
us through the still morning air has
a smack of business on the breexe.
Second, Mr. J. L. Roberts is pul
ling on his lot two shops one for
wood work and the other for black -
smithing purposes. As he and Mr.
A. McKinzie who are copartners an
ticipate so soon as the houses are
completed, to offer to the public
good and cheap wotk both in wood
and iron.
Third, Mr. M. H. Hopkins has on
his premises a large pile ot lumber
which he purposes in a short time to
have converted into buildings of dif
ferent kinds on his desirable lot,
kitchen, servant house &c.
Fourth, We see on the lot of Mr. J
C Little, opposite the Masonic Hall,
a neat double pen frame house chim
ney not completed however, and on
one of the lots ol Mr. J H Wilkins in
the neighborhood ot his gin house has
recently sprung up several comforts'
ble and good looking houses.
Dr. Hunter also has put up a
building on his lot fronting Judge
Diehl.
Fifth, The lot ot Mr. Carlos Rober
son is in process of improvement and
we expect to see it remodeled gener
ally before be is through with ii, for
he is a man that does not o things
by piece meal: so of course be will
make something out of it and turn
ts to some account.
Mr. S. A. Denny has had, ouly a
shoit time since, two additions put
to his house.
Also two experienced ditchers are
now employed in draining and
wor«i g on the streets and side
walks.
Sixth A'l thisto s> say nothing of
new jihfilM that are every day going
up (fMhnk fences we mean) not ofcly
right where you can see them from
the business part of Town, but a 1
around about the suberbs and to say
nothing either, of the many things
that ought to be done to make our
Town look more like a five wide a
wake place.
