Mr. Powers, who has been with the
Marietta Klectric Light Co., has gone
to Copper Hill, Tenn.
Miss Pearl Barron, of Atlanta, spent
Sunday with her sister, Miss Lucy Bar

Rev. S. R. Ledbetter, presiding elder
of the Marietta district, has “been sick
at his home herg for the past week
with the grip.

week brought him an increased num

Rev. J. H. Patton was still to unwell
to fill his pulpit at the Presbyterian
church last Sunday. There were no
services at that church. :

Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hardeman, wife
and. two children, Lizzie and Mamie,
left Tuesday evening an a visit to Flor

Terrell county, Ga., is out of debt
and has $16,000 in the treasury and will
not have to levy any county taxes this
year, only the state taxes will be col
lected. A happy state of affairs.
Rev. S. R. Belk had large congrega
tions at the Methodist ehurch Sunday,
and he preached two excellent sermons.
Eight persons were received into the
church.
Mr. Pat Anderson gave a candy-pull
ing last Friday night to a number of
his young friends. It wasan enjoyable
occasion. . Everybody was at their
‘‘sweetest,’”’ of course.
Census statistics show that every re
ligious denominatien has increased in
the last ten years except the Univer
salists, whigh church shows a decided
falling off.
Miss Leila Hamby left last week to
take position in public schools in Ros
well. She is a most worthy and com
petent teacher and Roswell may con
gratulate itself that she comes to teach
in her excellent schools. :
And now it is claimed that an inven
tion has been made which' enables one
to send a telephone message across the
ocean and any distance on land lines.
The next thing, of course, will be wire
less telephony.
Neither Mr. Vanderbuilt nor Miss
French could remember the other day
when their respective mothers were
born. A blank was left in their mar

Miss Berta Maddox,daughter of Con
gressman J. W. Maddox, was married
in Rome on Wednesday evening to Mr,
T.O. Hand. She gave him two hands
and } received three in return. Her
friends in Marietta waft congratula
tions and good wishes.
Mr. Charley Saunders and Mr. Al
Polhamus, of Fort Wayne, Ind., were
guests ef Mr William Johnston, Jlast
Sunday.
Mr. and Wm Johnston are sick with
the grip. .

town, where the groom has a lucrative
business position. The bride is at
tractive in every way And well worthy
of the splendid young man to whom
she has united her life’s destinies.
May they be happy and prosperous
through long lives, is the wish of all.
The Daughters of the Confederacy
and the Ladies’ Memorial Association
earnestly requests that every citizen of
Marietta and viciuity help them to se
cure a full house for Dr. McAuley's
lecture on Thursday evening. The lec
ture is both interesting and instructive,
and the confederate cemeterv silently
appeals for help!

Mr. A. A. Towers left Sunday might
for Spartanburg, S.C., and accompa
nied Miss Mary Dean Towers home trom
that place, she having recovered suffi
ciently from her long spell of sickness
to make the journey. Mrs. W. R.
Montgomery; who has been by her bed
side, returned home also. We are glad
to record this good news.

Mr. Jeff Baswell says he has been de
layed in opening his restaurant in rear
portion of the Elmwood building, but
he is going to have a first-class one
when he does get to business. He has
a number of sleeping rooms engaged in
the Elmwood for the accommodation
of lodgers. ;

The young men of the Sunday after
noon union prayer meeting wish to ex
press their thanks to the Methodist
church for the use of their old building,
to the committee of ladies for keeping
it so, to Miss Faw for the use of her or
gan and books, and to other friends for
their help and encouragement in this
work. The young men are taking quite
a good deal of interest in this meeting
and have elected in addition to the
committee on arrangements a chairman
W.F. Trenary, and a secretary and
treasurer, E. H. Hamby. Much bene

ic study of the Bible, the singing and
