The city needs a new calaboose and
the county a new jail. There is no
money in sight to do either.
The Augusta Herald states that
southern mills are selling cotton goods
3 under Fall River prices. :
‘‘How much money hag my husband
in bank ?”” demanded the woman. ‘I
cannot tell you that, madam,” replied
the man behind the grating. ‘“Why,
they told me you were the teller,”
snapped the woman.
The Atlanta papers noticed every
thing that Mayor Jim Woodward did.
Now they keep Mayor Mims prominent
ly before the public, even to his giving
a needy old woman a few pennies. The
thing is overdone. Give Mims and a
suffering public a rest.
From 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon
and evening, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Har
din received congratulations at their
new home on Baltimore block on the
fiftieth anniversary of their marriage—
their golden wedding.—Atlanta Consti
tution, Jan, 17th inst. Weextend con
gratulations to the esteemed couple.
We thought Col. Mark Hardin wasa
citizen of Cobb county. He served on
the grand jury in Cobb Superior Court
week before last.
The Chinese laundryman, Wing, who
was 80 brutally assaulted by Broadnax
and Anderson, is rapidly recovering,
but it is said that he is inconsolable
over the loss of his cue. It was found
necessary to cut it off in dressing the
wounds on back of his head. ‘‘No
money--no washee”” had better be
thankful that he is in the land of the
living, and not waste any vain regrets
on the loss of his ‘‘pig tail.”’
Mr. J. T. Burkhalter, of Lookout
Mountain, was in town Monday. He
is one of the few men who go 15 miles
to preaching. He rides to Summer
town, leaves his horse and takes the
Incline to the eity.—LaFayette Mes
senger. Mr. Burkhalter at one time
lived in Marietta, and shows that he is
still full of energy. He was in Mariet
ta this week and looks as natural as
ever.

replies to Dr. Mack and John Temple
Graves, in the Atlanta Journal, in op
position to their views on the revision
of the Presbyterian creed. Mr. Earle
takes direct issue with them and denies
that there is any formidable purpose
of the Presbyterians to rivise their
creed, which he as a layman, contends
for as veritably scriptural.
