F The report of State Pension Commis
" sioner Lindley shows that the state has
Paid-13,975 pensions, an increase this
year of 2,387 pensions and the paying
out of $127 460 more this year than was
expended by the state last year. The
total amount paid to pensioners is
$822845. Cobb county has 291 pen
sioners, who were paid $16,930.
Mr. H. H. Clay, dealer in staple and
faney groceries, is doing a good busi
ness and adding new custemers. He
desires to do better and invites you to

constructed at the pumping station of
the Marietta Waterworks near town,
which insures clear water and a heap
of it. The Marietts Paper Mill hgs a
new paper manufacturing machine in
which increases the capacity operation
of the mill.

Several years ago Mr. Joe J. Hard
age of this place bought some Califor
uia peackes in Atlanta. He planted
the seed and a couple of thrifty trees
is the result and they are bearing
this year. Last week he had on exhi
bition some of the peaches, weighing
nine ounces. They are very large,
nicely colored and of good flaver.
Crry Tax Book.—The city vax book is
now open for the payment of city taxes
for the year 1902. Call at clerk’s office
in council chamber and make c?rompt

Marshal Parks arrested Ernest Miles,
colored, Friday afternoon in Baptist
town, for cutting his wife with a knife.
He cut her clothing in front about
twelve inches long, and but for the
knife striking a corset steel he would
have killed her. The mayor fined him
$l5. He will be handled by the state
court later.
The Bible Reading Circle will meet
Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Rev.
S R Belk will give a ;Bible reading on
“‘Regeneration.” All the women of
the church are requested to be present.
These Bible readings are very helpful.
All welcome.
Rev. J. H. Patton left Monday for
Calhoun, where he is conducting a re
ligious revival. He will return Satur
day and preach at the Presbyterian
church Sanday. Communion services
will be held at 11 o’clock Sunday.
Rev. S. R Belk wlll preach on ‘‘Re
pentance” on Wednesday evening gat
7:30 p. m Mr Belk is preachinga se
ries of sermons on the doctrines of
Methodism, and all the members are
urged to attend. Visitors welcome.
Rev. J.T. Jenkins will begin next
Sunday night at the Baptist church a
geries of sermons to young men. A
quartette of young ladies will sing and
the services will be made attractive
and interesting. All invited.

Miss Emma Dawdy, of Peoria, 111.,
the sweet contralto singer, prolonged
