the death of Miss Sophie Drysdale, who
died May lith, 1909, at [Christ’s Chureh
Home, in Macon, Ga. Miss Drysdale
resided in Marietta a number of years,
and her death will be a source of regret
to her friends here.

Major J. A. Commerford, superin
tendent of the National cemetery, will
leave on the Bth of August for a trip to
New York, Boston and other points,
and will be gone about 25 days.

YOUNG WOMAN ASSAULTED.
Mrs. Exie Brown, 18 years of age. re
cently of Atlanta, was assaulted at the
home of her mother, Mrs. W P. Hum
phries, half a mile north of Vinings, in
this county, Tuesdasy morning 8 o’clock
by an unknown negro man, who had a
little dog with him. Mrs Brown was a
short distance from the house when at
tacked and choked. The family had
bought the Huntley place and had been
residing there two weeks.
Sheriffs McKinney and Kincaid and a
posse of citizens went to the scene in
automobiles and put Donaldson’s dogs
on the trail but the negro escaped.
The negro assailant is described as
being about 30 years of age, 8 feet tall,
weigh about 200 pounds, black, small
moustache, wore black slouch hat, blue
overalls, and a light-colored shirt. }

the city on Saturday afternoon. Ex-
Governor Smith had just returned from
Powder Springs, where he made an ed
ucational speech, and Governor Brown
was on his way to Canton to spend Sun
day with Judge James R. Brown. l

The boarding houses of the town are
filling up with summer boarders. A
modern hotel would draw a larger crowd
to Marietta every year. A new hotel is
