When a prisoner was shot, the Northern papers^ announced that a prisoner, confined at Camp Morton, was shot yesterday by a sentinel, “for disobedience of orders.” On the boats they were herded worse than cattle, being packed so closely together as to be unable to stretch their limbs out to rest, during a trip of sixteen days on the water. From the Camp Douglas prisoners, now arriving, we have heard but little, but presume they received the same treatment as those at Camps Chase and Morton. One incident, however, lias come to our knowledge, from a perfectly authentic source, which stamps the miserable Yankees the very counterpart of fiends and de mons. Its recital almost makes our blood run cold. C., has a factory iu operation in that city that turns out (daily 1.000 pairs of thick, strong and soft socks, suitable for sol diers’ wear, which are supplied to North Carolina troops. The same firm, we see, are endeavoring to estab lish a branch of their business at Montgomery, Ala., for furnishing the troops of that State in like manner.— It would be a great blessing to the army could a similar factory be lo cated on a large scale in every Confed erate State. The Yankee guards, on several occasions, amused them selves by shooting our men in cold blood. Four prisoners, in April last, were thus wounded. A Missisippian, of the 4th regiment, was shot, in August, simply for taking his clothes from the line stretched from one post To another, of the fence. The same day a gentleman who had been en gaged in tbe Mt. Sterling battle, was shot by the sentinel through the head, and of course instantly killed. The following day his wife came to the gate with clothing for him, but found, ’as, that her loved one was shrouded n the grave’s Cimmerian shadow, and|during the coming winter. assorted cargo, and the latter with salt, entered a Confederate port, on Satur day last. Another schooner attempt ing to enter at the same time, got ashore, and went to pieces. Stoppage of Cotton Mills.—The Woonsocket (R. I.) Patriot says : Of the nineteen Cotton mills in this vil lage, only three or four are now in operation. Among tbe latter are the Woonsocket Companiy’ iwhich have continued running through all the dull times.
