JAUS-ZCRiTY'. ACTS AND RESOLUTIONS of the Sixth Session of the PROVISIONAL CONGRESS OF THE confederate states. 1862. No. IS. AN ACT to provide for the payment of sums as certained to he due for postal (ten ice to citizens of the Confederate States by the Post Waster General. The Congress of the Confederate States cf America do enact, That the Post Waster General of the Confederate States do proceed to pay to the several persons or their law iu ly authoriz* d agents or representatives, the sums respectively lour.il due a:id ow ing to them for postal service render ed in any of the Siaj.es of this Confederacy, un der contracts or a1^TOntme;its made bv the Uni ted States Government be lore the Confederate States Government took charge of such set vice, as the said sums have been audited and ascer tained by Litn under the provisions of an act en titled “An act to collect for distribution the mon eys remaining in Ihe several Post Offices of the Confederate {states at the time the postal service was taken in charge by said government,” ap proved tbe doth of August. 18(51: but the sums authorized by this act to be paid are only the bal ances foutid due after all proper deductions shall have been made on account ot previous payments made by the United .States, or any of the States or of available provisions made in whole or in part tor such payment by said Government, or of any of the States and after making all proper de ductions ler failure or partial failures to perform tbs service according to their several contracts or appointments during the time for which they claim pay: Provided, that the provisions of this Act shall only extend to loyal citizens of the Con federate States. The notes mostly counterfeited are the 20’s, oil’s and 100’s, of the issue of Sept. 2, 1SG1—lithographed by Hoyer & Ludwig, Richmond. In all the genuine issues of these notes there is a shield in the upper left corner, the ! the right upper corner of which is j placed in the centre between the let ter N in months directly over it. In 1 the counterfeit the corner ot the shield is placed directly under the right down stroke of the letter N. piled from the Ihcords if the Adjutant and In- Inspector General's Office, and other sources. In the genuine note the head of the man in the lower left corner is nearly bald, a little hair is combed down on the right temple; in the counterfeit a full head of hair is represented, the hair on the right Col.
