lah. where there was gold and good gold.—

ances and bounty, may be audited and paid with-
out the necessities of the parties entitled prodil
cing a pay roll from the Captain or Commanding
officer, when there is other official evidence (rf the
amount due satisfactory to the second Auditor,
under such regulations as lie has or may prescribe
with tbe approval of the Secretary of War.
Sec. 2. The claims of deceased commissioned
officers shall be paid to their heirs or represent!!- j

The Wilmington Journal learns that, on
Tuesday, the 3d inst., Capt. Gal!#way.
commanding Coast Guards, captured a
Yankee boat near Little River, in the vi
cinity of the Smith Carolina lin
boat contained eight iaen and eleven En
field rifles. The men and rifles were also
captured. It would seem that the Yan
kees had coma nvboro From some Idockadei'
for the purpose of getting fresh meat, and
and hail already shot a beef, when Capt.
Galloway, with a portion of his command,
rather interfered, with their arrangements.
The prisoners arrived bore yesterday.—
There was also a negro in the boat, who

Auditor as many additional temporary clerks as
he may think necessary, to assist said Auditor in
the settlement of the* claims of deceased officers

j be four dollars per day. and without any addition
i whatever, for every day they shall ha so actually
i engaged, except one, whose annual compensation

Twelve Federal officers and a number
of privates captured by Van Dorn at the
battle of Spring Hill, escaped when en
route to (Jen. Bragg.
Col. Trezvatit and Capt. Little. 0 f the
1st Regiment are among our killed.
Yesterday Van Dorn prepared to meet
the approaching enemy on the old battle
field, but the enemy moving upon his
flanks compelled our forces to withdraw.
We now hold a good position four miles
beyond this place. Tho Yankees are in
fotce uuder (Jen. Granger, aud advancing
on our position this morning. It is ex
pected there will he an engagement.
It takes fifty thousand horses and
mules to supply' the Army of the Poto
mac.
Seventy-five negroes were frosen to
death in Memphis during one night in the
last cold spell. Such is Yankee philan-
tliopy and the fate of the negroes under
Yankee protection.
