Speedy Justice.
Two thieves, Alabama, stole
two horses in Carroll on Sunday
were pursued and captured on Monday —
placed on trial and sentenced to four
years imprisonment in thc Penitentiary,
and brought to this place (twenty five
mil's from Carrollton) and lodged in jail
Tuesday, to await a guard from the State
prison. On Friday morning as thc jailer,
Mr. Norman Bradley, entered their cell
to furnish them break fast, they seized
him, and in tlie melee escaped. A large
number of citizens and a portion of the
V S. forces at this Post are making ef
forts to lecapturc the thciws. Wc four
tlie rascals have made good their escape.

Taming Bees.
When bees are full of honey they will
not sting, and are as harmless as kittens.
They wiil fill themselves with honey
when frightened. Smoke of rotten-wood,
tobacco, cotton, rags or dry corn cobs,
will frighten them. These articles should
burn readi'y, slowly, and without blazing.
Thc very best material to uso is rotten-
wood ; it should not be too dozy as it will
burn too fast, and^ be likely to blaze.—
Wood is very convenient, and evidently
not expensive.
With^the n outh first direct a little
smoke to the entrance of ilie hives and
then into the slats or holes of the honey
board, and directly upon the bees. Do
not be afraid of injuring the bees'; you
cannot harm them with a reasonable
amount of ^mokc. Now remove thc hon
ey board and blow smoke upon the bees,
to keep them below thc tops of thc frames.
Keep them below the tops till they are
full of honey. In from five to fifteen
minutes the most of the bees will be gorg
ed, and look as plump as aldermen.—
When in this condition, the frames of
comb may be taken out, examined and
returned. Follow these directions and
you will find no trouble in taming ar.d
handling any hive of bees.—Moore's Ru
ral New Yorlcer.
