Cleansing the Streets.
While our authorities have manifested
praiseworthy energy in repairing aud irn
proving the streets and side-walks, we
doubt not that their action, would be en
dorsed in devoting a portion of their time
in looking after the feleanliness of the
city, with a view to the continued good
health of our citizens. All the Southern
cities are taking steps in this direction.
We deem it unnecessary to make any
extended remarks on this subject, for we
know that the officers who have boon so
diligent aud energetic in the performance
of all their other duties will not be neg
ligent in this particular.
Horse Stealing.
On Friday night the 20th of this
month a horse and mule were stolen from
Mr. John Carpenter of this County. He
followed the tracks of the annimals about
a mile north of this place, and could trace
them no farther. He finally gave up all
hope of recovering his property in this
way, and on Monday had one hundred
hand hills priuted and at 4 o’clock P. M.
same day mailed to different post offices.
On the 9 o'clock train next morning came
a letter, and a gentleman to inform him
that his horse and mule and oue thief
were at Fairburn.
1 wo men by the names of Hill and
Jennings were charged with being the
thieves. They were arrestrd near Red
Oak on A. ami W. P. Railroad. Hill
subsequently made his escape. Jennings
however is in the hands of the officers of
the law of Campbell county. We sup
pose lie will be transmitted to this county
ior trial. Both men are citizens of Camp
bell.
Mr. Carpenter went to Fairburn on the
Tuesday evening train and there after
paying the fifty dollars, the amount of
fered as a reward once more obtained pos
session of his property.

Gentlemen :—Your favor of the 16th
inst., requesting me to deliver a Eulogy
on the dead of Coweta, has been received.
Circumstances have prevented an earlier
response.
It is nei her unpatriotic nor treas.nab’e
to avow our gratitude for the gallant men,
who fought so nobly and died so well in
behalf of Southern Independence ; it is a
holy work to cherish their memories—
Let monuments be reared to perpetuate
their names, and let the remembrance of
their heroism and sufferings be forever
embalmed in the hearts of their unfortu
nate, but grateful couutrymeu.
It is with melancholy pleasure that I
accept the task you so kindly offer—would
that I were worthier its performance. You
also request me to name a day upon which
to deliver this Eulogy. I shall endeavor
to obtain complete and reliable informa
tion of the part the Sons of Coweta, living
and dead, bore in the great struggle fur
Southern Nationality. This will reqiure
time and research. The 4th of July next
will suit my convenience.
For the flattering evidenee of your ap

me, accept gbntlcmen my sincere thanks
and permit me to subscribe myself,

- The Teachers Meeting.
Having noticed in former issues of the
“ Herald,” propositions for a meeting of
the teachers of this and adjoining coun
ties to be held in this place on the second
Saturday in next month, we the under
signed teachers, take this method of ex
pressing our hearty approval of the pro
posed meeting. Feeling it our duty to
co-operate in every measure for the en
hancement of the educational interest of
the country, we will, with much pleasure,
meet with our professional bretheren at
the time specified. We would express a
hope that teachers generally will interest
themselves in this matter, and encourage
the movement bv their presence on that
occasion. The cause of educatiou, like
every other interest of our country, has
been greatly impeded for the last four
years, by f hat unfortunate struggle, which
has absorbed the minds and energies of
our people. Schools have languished un
der the pressure of that conflict in which
the country has been engaged The spirit
of education rind mental culture has suf
fered a visible decline. These are evils
which all must seriously deplore; aud
which if not remedied, must result in con-

Dr. J. W. Wiley.—The Full Set of Teeth
yon made for my wife about 8 years ago, are
all that could be desired. They are pronoun
ced by all who have seen them as beautiful, and
as to their durability and usefulness, I would
state, they never have needed repair, and that
my wife's health has been transformed from
bad to good, owing no doubt to tbeif perfect
adaptability to mastication. Wk. G. IIbbrixg.
My wife bad been afflicted with a nervous
head ache for more than a year, caused from
indigestion consequent upon the I033 of teeth.
Dr. °Wiley inserted a set of Artificial Teeth,
and it was but a few Weeks when we discover
ed quite an improvement in her health. She
is now enjoying robust health, and I believe is
purely Indebted to his skill in assisting nature
tn the discharge of a proper mastication.

With pleasure we recommend Dr. Whiley as
