A Farce in Newnan.
Mr. Editor: The Conservative or white man’s
party held a meeting in the Court House on
Tuesday the 7th inst., for the purpose of nom
inating candidates for the Representative
oninch of the Legislature and county officers.
The action of the meeting was altogether har
monious, and resulted in the selection of good
and true men, just such men as aie fit to rule
and govern a white man’s country, and for
w hom all white men will cast their ballots.
After the meeting was adjourned, an indi
vidual calling himself Morse, and having more
affronterv than braius, bearing a white man s
face but possessing only tbe vile instincts of a
low and debased Radical, announced from the
Court House steps a meeting of what he styled j Black
the Republican party, to be held for the pur
pose of nominating a candidate to represent the
interests of the niggers and scallawags in the
36th. Senatorial District. Out of curiosity, a
goodly number of Conservatives and gentle
men remained to witness the deliberations of
the meeting. But lo and behold, and to the
lasting credit of our good old county be it said,
cnly two scallawags could be fouud to organize
the meeting—both of these worthies hailing
from Campbell county, and feeling fully au
thorized to represent the District and so im
portant an interest.
One of the workers of iniquity called the
other to the chair, and after some considerable
hlay in organizing for the want of a secretary,
^hich officer is very essential in all deliberative
k>lies, and we think especially so in all Radi
al meetings, as their names should bo recor-

Franklin Ga., April, 7th 18G8.
I'ursuant to a previous call, delegates
from the counties of Carroll, Heard and
Troupe, composing the 37tli Senatorial
District met in the Court House, when
the convention was called to order and
organized by electing B. C. Johnson of
Troup county to the chair and 0. W.
Mabry was requested to act as Secretary,
when the following delegates reported
and enrolled.
From Carroll County, W. II. Acklin,
W. M. Echols, W. T. Summerlin, N. C.
Jones and J. J. Sumcrlin.
From Heard County, J. C. Brewer, A.
R. Williams and W. G. Crane.
From Troup County, B. C. Johnson,
J. A. Long and C. W. Mabry.
The meeting being organized, on mo
tion of C. W. Mabry, a committee was
appointed by the Chair of one from each
county, to present a suitable candidate
to represent the 37th Senatorial District
in the Legislature, should the constitu
tion be ratified by the people in the ap
proaching election, aud a Legislature con
vene under it.
The Chair appointed J. A. Long of
Troupe, A. R. Williams of Heard aud J.
J. Summerlin of Carroll, who retired a
short time and returned, and through their
chairmau J. A. Long reported and nomin
ated as a candidate to represent the Dis
trict, W. 0. Tuggle of Troup County.
The Report of the Committee was un
animously adopted.
It was announced that Mr. Tuggle was
then in town, and upon motion of Dr. J.
A. Long of Troupe, a committee was ap
pointed^ wait upon Mr. Tuggle, inform
him of his nomination and request his ac
ceptance of the same.
The Chair appointed Messrs. Acklin,
Williams and Long as said committee,
who through their chairman introduced
Mr. Tuggle to the convention, who in a
short, but appropriate address accepted
the nomination.
On motion it was,
Resolved, That the Secretary oe re
quested to furnish a copy of the proceed
ings of the meeting to the “ LaGrange
Reporter” and the “ Newnan Herald,”
and request the publication of the same.

A Comparison.—Abraham Lincoln
and Jefferson Davis were the chieftains of
contending principles and communities.
The first was at the head of the Fedcralistic
element, the other of State Sovereign De

one triumphed and the other fell, so far
as principles may be said to fall by the
defeat, of armies. The one was an un
settled, shifting, vulgar, rollicking man

determined. The one was a plebeian by
