Return of old Will firidges--His Story ---The Truth. Old Aym Bridges, whose mysterious disap pearance we noticed in our last issue, has re : turned to Newnan. 'We saw and conversed with him last Wednesday, and learned his story, which is about as follows: On 'Wednesday night of last week he left his house, with the intention of being absent ouly a shorp time.— After reaching the distance of twenty pp thirty paces from his cabin, he heard what sounded to him like a roaring noise. He at first thought the noise was in his head, but looking around he saw what he thought was a man approach ing, and at once concluded that he had been fired upo f u. ,Qld ^Vill [then resorted to his scrapers, and used them for an hour or more. At times he was walking, then runjjipg, Sur rounded by countless spectres and men firing at him with ghostly guns. At length he be came exhausted and fell into a “deep gully,” in which he remained until 8 or 9 o’clock Thursday morning. Looking out front his place of conceaJjijen.t, pe discoyey^d a skjrt cf jpoflds witich he stealthily approach,ed. entering this thicket he found a free-top under which he secreted hiqjsqff- At this point, un molested by ghosts, men oy devils, and unfed by ravens, JT,emaijted Tuesday morning, ypen tiie gnawings o{ hunger forced him to again make use of his eyes. He knew not where he was, but discovering a farm-house near by, he resolved to make the venture of an approach. Slowly, quietly, but tremblingly the old man left his hiding place and humbly walked to the habitation of ^onje ojje. To old Will’s great joy he soon ascertained thai the postage \vas the home of that Christian gentle man, Rev. W. F. S. Powell. Making known his wants, he was soon supplied with many table comforts” and assured of his entire fyeedoip from danger. The inner man being refreshed, he boldly resolved to return and view once more the scene of his first- danger 8- No doubt with the pride of a veteran he looked upon the spot wlieye fos ghostly enemy made the first assault, and with a heart swelling with unutterable gratitude to God for his de livery, he sought ^Lieutenant Martins, of the Bureau, to whisper in his ears the story of fris wrings. Tlie substance of the above we heard from the ojd man’s lips, and mu^t confess we ££ver listened to a more inconsistent narrative. In brief we are satisfied that one of two things is tyq,e—either the oi<l jn&n is a lunatic, or the whole thing jyas concocted by jthe negroes of this city and vicinity to provoke a conflict with the whites, tyre inclined to the latter opinion. From his very earliest 'years he has been generally regarded'fts the flower of the family, since he has displayed far more intelligence, altitude for learning, and general good sense, than his brother, the Prince of Wales. There are numerous tales on record of the thrashings he frequently bestowed upon his qig brother in their boyish days.
