Can tho candidate subscribe to the aforesaid

In all of this our people see no cause of re

The cases of Georgia and Alabama presents
some peculiar hardships. In the first named
the debtors were promised “relief” from their
burthens if they would vote to ratify the pro
posed Constitution. They believed they would
be discharged, and so believing refused to avail
themselves of the benefits x>f the Bankrupt
Act, or willingness of their creditors to com
promise. The opiate administered produced
slumber and delightful dreams for a season ;
but oh ! Congress has stricken out the relief
clauses of the Constitution they voted to ratify,
and has left them to the mercy of furious and,~
in many cases, wronged creditors, and ere long
the Sheriff will be at the door, and the negro
their associate in the jury-box and equal at the
ballot-box. This is a bold, wicked fraud upon
the people, and so they construe it. It is true
they were warned, but the Radicals of Georgia
denied the truthfulness of the warning.

upon Radical unreliability. The fair-minded
and unprejudiced public cannot entertain any
respect for a party that thus disregards its
