On the morning of the 24tli inst., we were

cotton limb containing a red bloom, taken
from the crop of his two sons, Sarq- and Willie
C. Teigb, who are pupils in the school of Mr.
Daniel Walker in this city, who concluded that,
while they were trying to acquire an education,
would be as near self-sustaining as possible,
planted a small cotton crop, which is in the

yield. Consequently the boys can enjoy oiium

What Others Think of Newnan.
The editor of that sprightly sheet, the Mont
gomery Advertiser, who spent a few days of
last week in our city, in his issue of Tuesday
thus writes of Newnan, her citizens, climate
and mineral water:
“ A Pleasant Place.—The little city of New-
nan, Ga., about midway between Atlanta and
West Point, is becoming quite a place of resort
for Montgomery people. It is situated in a
delightful section of country, and owdug to its
altitude and bracing atmosphere, is particular
ly refreshing to those w r ho breathe the hot air
and dust of thi* city. The citizens are unusu
ally kind and hospitable, and are doing all in
their power to render the stay of visitors in
their midst, pleasant and agreeable. All who
are there express themselves delighted with
the change, and would like t-o remain for the
Summer. The water is cold enough without
ice, and is the purest of freestone. The Cha
lybeate spring is possessed of strong medicinal
powers, and has affected some re
cures. Musquitoes cannot live in so pure a
climate, and consequently are no trouble to
any one. If any of our readers wish to find a
pleasant place conveniently near Montgomery,
we can safelj' advise them io visit Newnan.

“Let it be the last, my friend,” replied Wil

power to make up for lost time. Promise in*•

Doubtless thou wilt find it hard to abstain at

of thy wife and children, and it will soon
become easy. When thou hast need of coffee,
tell Mary and she will give it thee.”
The poor fellow tried to eat and drink, but
the food seemed to choke him. After vainly
trying to compose his feelings, he bowed his
head on the table, and wept like a child. Af
ter awhile he at# and draoh, and his host
parted with him for the night with the friendly
words:
“ Try to do well, John, and tfioq wijt always

John entered iuto his employ next day, and
remained with him many years, a sober, honest
and steady man. The secret of the theft was
