(communicated.] Reply to Justice on the Hight and Ad amson Case- Bowdon, Ga., Sept 21. Dear Herald :—I hope you will allow me space in your columns, to reply to an article which appeared in your last issue, claiming to represent another view of the Hight and Ad amson case, and signed “Justice.” In my hurried report of the affair, on the 7th inst., I reported the facts just as they were related to me by Mr. C. White, who saw the whole affair. However, there was a mistake in my report in jegard to the direction in which they were go ing—they were coming towards town, instead of going from town. In that report, I did not think of taking sides, or, of making any impression on the pub- mind, either for or against either party—but, only to report the affair as it was related to me, which I did. In that report, I did not jns- tifv or condemn either party, nor do I yet— and it is not my object, in this article, to jus tify or condemn either party ; but as stated in my first article. I will not attempt to give the cause of this affair, as I consider the causes matters for investigation, and do Dot consider it mv business, nor any other man’s to attempt to give before investigation. But my object in this article is merely to re ply to the chargee made against me by so-call ed Justice. To the first charge, that my re port was calculated to do great injustice to the young man, Adamson. My report is fresh in the mind of the public, and I have no idea that any one would draw any such inference from my report, unless it would be some one desir ing to stir up strife, unnecessarily and uncall- for. We were strengthened in our decision by letters from prominent citizens of Bowdon. urging this view. N. S. however, thinks that gross injustice has been done him, and asks permission to reply to charges which he deems personal. We consider, then, that in publish ing his communication, we do not make room for an attack upon Mr. Adamson, but only give N. S.’s reply to matters personal to him self and “ Justice.” We do not intend to be come involved in this affair, for we have no prejudices, and deeply sympathise with both parties. We do state, however, that if’ “Jus tice” sees proper to reply he can do so, and then we shall certainly publish no more in re lation to the Hight-Adamson affair, or matters personal between himself and N. S. Commu nications to secure insertion in the Herald of the same week must reach us by the Tuesday's mail. We will further add, that if one party de sires the name of the other, he must state in his application that he desires it for personal or le gal redress, and it will then be furnished. [offical] PROCLAMATION 1 : From the New Yoik Herald. The Jewish New Year. The return of this Jewish festival compels attention to a subject which does not receive from us one-half the amount of attention to which, from its intrinsic importance, it is so just ly entitled. To say that the history of the Jewish people is one of the most peculiar on record would be true ; but it would not be an adequate expression of the truth, for the his tory of the Jewish people is virtually the his tory of the human family. How much of the history of the world would be worth remem bering away from its connection with that peo ple t The call of Abraham, and the patriarchal history that followed, the bondage in Egypt, the deliverance and the subsequent wilderness wanderings, the conquest, occupation and the strange history of the Kingdom ; aud the dis ruption of the State which David and Solomon had so laboriously built up, the declineand fall, the appearance of him who claimed to be the long promised and long looked for Messiah, the crucifixion and the miraculous events which immediately followed, the destruction of Jeru salem by the soldiers of Titus and the conse quent and final dispersion—how largely these things enter into all we know or care to kuow about the history of tile past ? It is the high est claim that can be set forth on behalf of Christianity that it is the complement of Juda- ism. However much Christians may differ from Jews, or Jews from Christians, in doctrine and in sympathy, this much at least must be ad mitted—that each has an equal right to claim By the Governor; : 7ti_ :'0‘ Whereas. Official information has been received at this Department that a mur der was committed in the county of Mer- riwether on the 29th day of- August, upon the body of Allen Richardson by Wil liam Perry, and that said Perry has fled from justice : ’ > I have thought proper, therefore, to is sue this proclamation, hereby offering a reward of Two Hundred Dollars for the apprehension and delivery of said Perry to the Sheriff of said 6ohnty and State. And T do moreover chaTgc and require all officers in this State, civil and military, to be vigilant, in endeavoring to appre hend the said Perry, in order that he may be brought to trial for the offence with which he stands charged. If we are not Jews by blood, we are all to a large extent Jews in intellect and feeling. On one occasion the present prime Minister said : “ One half of Europe worships j a Jew ; the other half worships a Jewess. ’’ The saying was not the less true that it was daring and impious. It is impossible for us, even if we would, to be wholly indifferent to the condition and pros pects of the Jewish people. Time was when it was the supposed duty of every Christian to trample them under toot. There was no spe cies of indignity to which they were not sub jected. There was no coarse or ingenious cru elty which they were not compelled to undergo. The history of their wanderings in all the lands for the bust eighteen hundred years is a history of suffering and sorrow which finds no parallel in the history of any other people.
