The negro who is supposed to -have
murdered Miss Sarah Richards in
Greene county, and afterwards burned
her house, escaped from jail in Greens
boro last week.

David J. Clay and Thomas J. Knight,
two. hopeful-citizens of Bibb county,
got into a religious controversy -last
week. Clay carried bis point by insert-'
ing a knife into Knight’s stomach.—
It is thought that the force of fheifib-

to-this county where he has ever since
resided. He had in cultivation this
yea? some of the land\he worked then,
—forty years ago. In 1833 his wife
died, and .1835 he married. Miss Mar-
gar etShine. This venerable lady sur
vives him; she is much respected and

thy of a large circle of friends and ac
quaintances.

Smith, from the Upper Fifth District,
