A. Mr. Williams, in Macon the other
day, endeavored; tp reprimand his son-
in-law with an. axe. The son-in-law
protested with a carbine, and there the
matter rests.
The Cartersvdlle Standard reports
the arrival Of nine cartloads of iron for
tee narrow guage Cheroke.e road. The
cotton crops .in the neighborhood of
Cartersville will not yield much more
than-half the amount of last year’s
crop.’
Muscogee county farmere are sav
ing hay—one cut 25,000 lbs—a good
idea.
Girls are mischievous ani-mules. A
few days since a lad employed in a
Columbus factory was oiling a machine,
when one of the female operators
started it and -cut tee fellow’s finger
off.
In the-wire-grass region, the exces
sive-and continued wet weather has
been very damaging to crops of all
kinds. In Clinch, Charlton, Ware,
Wayne and Appling, the whole .crop
will be cut-off over one half. In Clinch
we understand .the whole country . is
under water, and. there- will be com
paratively nothing , made. In other
counties it will only : be on very high
places that there will be a crop. The
excess: of moisture is very injurious to
Vote’the potato, and cane crops. A
great deal bf com is ruined. We hear
very, little of: the ootton crop. Hard
times is the cry with our: people; and
truly, if the. weather continues our
people will be in distressing circum
stances.
The Dawson Journal assures the
’people that the merchants are all right
since the fire, and that the town is
rising from its ashes. She-fs prepared
to go . on. with business'; as heretofore.
Mr. James Ivy, son of Col. R. I).
Ivy; of Baker county, was killed last
week by a freedman named Sam
Fields.: Mr., Ivy was tracing up the
thief who had been-stapling hogs, and,
was about to prove it on Sam, when
he.fired on him. with a double barrel
shot gun killing him instantly. The
murderer made his escape.
James Graddy had his' left ami am-'
putated at Rowe’s saw mill, in Meri
wether county, last Friday, by falling
against the saw.
